About Underground Sound

Portrait of Underground Sound
Laine Henderson
Laine Henderson wears her heart on her sleeve, writing songs that are
addictively catchy yet unbounded by empty pop cliches.

Laine was brought up among the spectacular beauty of Vancouver,
Canada, where she was immersed in music and performance from an early age.
She began songwriting while attaining a Bachelor of Music at Berklee College
of Music, Boston. Later, Laine moved to New York City where she continued
to write and perform introspective songs about love, redemption, heartbreak
and the unending possibilities of life. Playing regularly at CB's Gallery,
The Bitter End and The Living Room led to invitations and performances at
the ‘New York Songwriters Circle’, the ‘National Academy of Popular Music
Showcase’ and the well-respected ‘BMI Songwriters Workshop’.

Her debut album "Frostbite", was released soon after and Jeff Bercovici, of
New York Street Beat, best explains: “If Suzanne Vega were dead, there'd be
reason to suspect her ghost was animating singer/songwriter Laine Henderson.
Henderson shares Vega's earnestness, her penchant for poetic reflection, and
her high standards of musicianship. Like Vega's, Henderson's music offers a
look at a variety of universal human experiences – loneliness, rejection,
spirituality, renewal – from a perspective that is uniquely feminine,
although Henderson's lyrics are considerably less abstract than her
predecessor. Henderson borrows elements from a variety of traditions, from
jazz to flamenco to Dustbowl blues, all the while keeping her roots planted
firmly in the soil of folk rock.”

Honourable mention for ‘Down South’ at the John Lennon Songwriting contest
together with her next release, a self titled EP, led to more invitations to
perform at both the Rockgirl Music Conference in Seattle and the
Philadelphia Music Conference. As a result, some of Laine’s songs appeared
in the independent Bunk Film, ‘Reconciliation’.

From there, Laine's musical journey took her to Dublin, Ireland where she
quickly established herself on the highly competitive live music scene
culminating in a series of headline gigs in the infamous ‘Crawdaddy’s’ club
supported by the rising cream of the Irish singer/songwriters scene. She
has developed songs for her forthcoming new album, recorded in Connecticut with
Chris Delvecchio, At Underground Sound, while successfully gigging around Ireland and touring with
‘The 4 Of Us’, who specifically requested her for their recent national
tours.

Laine has recently returned to North America and is currently residing in
Vancouver.
