In the fall of 2007, the pop vocals of Joshua Tillman came together with the, per se, “grunge” method of guitarist Michael Kleban to form a new alternative rock group with a mission to stir the energy of Athens, Georgia. After five years of friendship and seven years of musical experience, these two collegiate musicians finally mustered up the strength to pull together a group of five members who call themselves TwentyNine. The two founding members decided on the name while hanging out on the front porch of Michael Kleban’s apartment. Bent between a painstaking search for a meaningful name and a quick look at an apartment number, they quickly made their choice. Every since their creation, TwentyNine has been headlining gigs in downtown Athens, and in January 2008 they won first place at Emergenza Music Festival in Atlanta.

With the addition of drummer Travis Ebbert, bassist Brandon Marsolo, and keyboardist Reid Fincher, the new rock n’ roll sensation is making way with an original sound that captures the soul of today’s independent youth. While trying to keep a sense of artistic license and originality, they still focus on pleasing their growing fan base and keeping strict watch on, as singer/songwriter Joshua Tillman has coined it, “sing-along-ability.” TwentyNine perpetuates the influences of late 90’s and early millennium rock bands such as Incubus, Goo Goo Dolls, Foo Fighters, and Velvet Revolver. With catchy vocal melodies and authentic rhythms, every song leaves a spellbinding effect on their audience.
