The Break Mission
The Break Mission started playing together in 2000 in Boston. Until 2005, they were known as Redletter, an ambient pop rock quartet with early comparisons to Coldplay, Ride and Hum. A bloodthirsty legal battle with an L.A. based Redletter prompted a name change. Ok, no blood, they just didn’t want to fight that hard for it. Soon after, they signed to NYC label RoHo Records. During the recording of their debut for RoHo, Jeff stumbled upon the new name. While reading a book one afternoon, he saw the words “break” and “mission” on opposite pages and couldn’t stop the incessant batting of his eyes from one word to the other. The Break Mission became a symbol of the group’s new direction, evoking ideas of mystery, tension and purpose. This new direction led half of the band to relocate to New York City. Their momentum continued, touring regionally, garnering more and more local press, showcasing at CMJ, NEMO and 2NMC music festivals and being asked to join in Boston’s WBCN Rock N Roll Rumble. Most recently, the band was featured in the October 2006 issue of SPIN magazine. On September, 29 2007 the band will release their second full length album As Much Light As It Will Take. A beautiful and unique record, it shows the band’s fascination with lush textured rhythms and ambience, whispery folk and expansive pop rock. The lyrics address ideas of hope, clarity and the exploration of love’s decadence and spirit. This is The Break Mission’s most developed record to date, and critics and fans alike have described the band as sublime, anthemic and refreshing. They hope you will too.
