how we looked at the turn of the century
With the 2001 release of their debut full-length, “Faust,” on the Animal World Recordings label, musical chameleons Tangemeenie sought to use the internet as the primary promotional mechanism for their unique brand of eclectic, DIY indie pop.
The husband and wife duo played a limited number of tour dates (including a CMJ performance at NYC’s Knitting Factory) and got national college radio airplay, but their focus always remained on maximizing their on-line presence. Then a variety of personal circumstances (including the duo’s taking on lead roles in now-defunct indie rock stalwarts, Pocket Novel Mystery) led Tangemeenie to go on indefinite hiatus for the better part of five years.
But Tangemeenie is back now, producing all new recordings and undertaking one of its most ambitious projects yet: To self-produce an entire commercial-quality full-length CD on a single desktop computer—including pressing a limited run of the finished CDs on the same desktop, using a commercial-quality on-demand CD press.
Meanwhile, the group will be documenting the entire project and offering free downloads of works in progress from the new release on its blog at www.tangemeenie.com.
