Portrait of skynelson
Sky Nelson of The Sky Band
The Sky Band is the perfect storm. Like air fronts colliding from multiple directions, the unique virtuosity of each member collides with Sky’s inspirational yet raw songwriting, resulting in a tempest of creativity that is so much more than the sum of its parts.

Their energy breaches the dikes when J·E·D, the hardest working jam rhythm section in Sonoma County, uplifts KellytheSinger’s audacious vocal improv's, and mixes with the meaningful writing and singing of Sky Nelson (twice awarded “Best Song” and three-time “Best Performance” winner by West Coast Songwriters). Audiences are inevitably inspired to both dance with abandon and think with care about our common future.

The arrangement of the band is almost backwards, with Sky’s keyboards taking as much lead space as Eric's blistering guitar, and the guitars creating indelible ambient soundscapes as much as the keyboards. Tastefulness and groove are key elements in the band's sound, blending influences of jazz, funk, reggae, R&B, rock, and pop seamlessly into grooves that can change as quickly as the weather. The result is what they call “Mainstream Music of Hope for the New Millennium.”

Sky's work in physics and quantum consciousness theory informs not only the band's message, but also its business plan. They ride gracefully the waves of fate, while also dedicating long hours to power the motion of the vessel.
The Sky Band stands for the power of the individual human soul to break free of limitations and shine like the sun through the eye of the hurricane.

The Sky Band formed in 2006 and 2007, and under the nurturance of cooperative record label New Vintage Artists it has come into its full force.
