Raise High the Roofbeams is an Indie-folk-rock band from Portland, Oregon based around the songs written by multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/vocalist Andy Phillips.
On describing his songwriting Phillips says: "I suppose that my songs are a culmination of all the music I really enjoyed, and drove into the ground!...The Beatles, The Who, The Beach Boys, The Kinks, The Band, Country stuff, late '70s Punk & New Wave, I was really into Elvis Costello and The Jam for a long time, and the Britpop stuff. I loved Pavement too, and other various indie music, like the stuff from Saddle Creek."
Along with Andy, Brett Neuman adds guitars, drums, bass, and vocals. "Brett and I went to high school together in Colorado, and really taught each other how to play. He just recently moved up to Oregon so we've been working on songs." Conor Apperson, another friend from Colorado plays the drums for live shows.
Raise High the Roofbeams music is intelligent and literary, while still begging your toe to do a little tapping .
