SICK BRAINS were born in 1990. Two 16-year old kids, enthusiastic about punk-rock, hevy metal and hardcore (J. M. Tafalla and Eduardo Tomás 'Zomas'), decided to buy a guitar and some drums. Bassist Raúl Velasco 'Gallofa' joined later.

After a while tormenting the singer’s neighbours (with several fines for excessive noise), and with no space available at local youth centres in Zaragoza, they decided to rent a place to practice, a fetid, dirty hole on the outskirts of the city perhaps, but a place with inimitable charm.

After some initial adjustments, Sick Brains began to play as a group with Martín Álvarez ‘Piñón’ taking up the bass, and Tafalla as singer.

This line-up continued until 1997, when the group made their first recordings. They became well-known in Zaragoza and across Spain with their first two tracks ‘Con razon o sin ella’ and ‘Acto II’ . Shortly afterwards, Martin left the band for personal reasons, Guillermo Mata replacing him (at the time he was also bassist for the comic-rock group ‘Los Berzas’).

With all these changes Sick Brains now prepared for their first studio recording, the CD ‘Sick Brains’ (Producciones Sin Compasiones 1998); ‘No se quien soy’ followed (Producciones Sin Compasiones 2000), and later ‘Hoy solo’ (produced by the band and edited by Producciones Sin Compasiones in 2005). For these tracks, Javier Tenías collaborated on the lyrics and Paco Muñoz ‘Paquillo’ (bass for ‘Contrabando de grifos y objetos perdidos’) played bass for their live concerts. Over time the line-up of the group now changed again with Guillermo going on to become the second guitar and ‘Paquillo’ the bassist of the group.

The band appears in the film ‘Una de zombis’ directed by Miguel A. Lamata, playing the role of the band ‘Azote Satánico’, Sick Brains recorded two songs for the film soundtrack: ‘Una de amor’ y ‘Azote Satánico’ (also included on their CD ‘Hoy solo’). The film experience encourages them start a parallel project, establishing an alter ego band -ultrathrashdeathmetal- ‘AZOTE SATÁNICO’ under which name they have produced a record of assorted versions, from Renato Carosone to Elvis Presley. In all, 12 songs designed for perfect relaxation.

After all these years and coping the struggles which life just seems to bring along, and Miguel Angel’s help (‘Enterprise Paradise’, the manager), Sick Brains are still in existence.

Sick Brains are currently working on their next new record. The current members are:
José M. Tafalla (singer and guitar)
Eduardo Tomás ‘Zomas’ (drums)
Guillermo Mata (guitar)
Paco Muñoz ‘Pakillo’ (bass)

Deseverdly #1. By far the best song I've heard on this site since I've been listening. The first 30 seconds from the verse to the chorus gives me the goosebumps.

Loved your music, unique but you stay true to traditional punk roots. I'm a fan.

WTG for taking first in Punk. I judged it earlier this week and when I heard it I knew it would do well.

    Hope it stays there.

    Sincerely,

    Malice and Arioch
