After sitting through “Blade Runner” three times with my lonesome in 1981, I was inspired by Ridley Scott’s vision and very motivated toward a desire to manipulate images and taking viewers on an emotional roller coaster ride through film and video.

At the age of 18 - barely out of high school - I had a strong desire to work at First Avenue, the Minneapolis Danceteria and premier concert rock club in downtown Minneapolis. I've always been a huge fan of music, and actually had a fake ID made with the intent of getting into the club to see the awesome shows - with an ulterior motive of trying to convince Steve McClellan (club manager) to offer me a job.

In 1982, I became a VJ, Director/Cameraman/Editor (positions which I held until 1986) and cut all the club's video wallpaper. Throwing myself into my projects, I would often sleep overnight in the mezzanine, manually editing visuals without the benefit of a video-editing controller which allowed the two machines to talk.

It was during this period that Prince saw my elongated dance version of his “Little Red Corvette” video, which got me recognized by RockAmerica as the first video artist to pioneer video "scratching" in the world. Soon after, I was asked to direct the first of many live Prince concerts. It was also around this time that I went to school at “Film In the Cities” and a brief stint at one of the University of Minnesota's film classes. I soon dropped out because I realized that the instructor’s vision varied significantly from mine.

During this time, I also hosted a local favorite radio show each Thursday night from midnight to 2 a.m. on KFAI (90.3 FM), called “Final Vinyl”. The program was greatly influenced by the artists I saw and heard at First Avenue, and I saw the airways as an excellent venue to share and inspire listeners with my thoughts, observations and inspirations, based on the rapidly changing music and cultural scene of the early-mid Eighties.

Towards the end of my term at First Avenue, I started taking freelance gigs in the film and video world. I worked as a Grip on my first job (commercial for Ski-Doo), and then moved into Video Assist. I took a job as a Lighting Technician at The Children's Theater Company for one year, even while maintaining a freelance career.

It wasn’t long until I began developing ideas and experimental concepts in directing and shooting. I honed my editing skills at the Minneapolis Television Network (MTN), the local cable network, and directed a few low-budget music videos. I soon began to pick up occasional freelance corporate/docu-promo jobs, which, along with numerous Prince gigs, were becoming increasingly frequent and keeping me busy for several years. In addition, I continued to work as a VJ at clubs such as Prince's Glam Slam, Mission, and Williams' nightclub in Uptown Minneapolis.

During this period I began doing a lot of national and international TV commercials for agencies and production companies based in the Twin Cities and across the country. Several years with this genre of work acted as a bridge and financial buffer to experiment with other types of work, including a short period as live camera operator at the Metrodome shooting the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, directing and editing Electronic Press Kits (EPK’s) for musicians, as well as co-directing and editing a Reality Television series for Fox Television Network and any other opportunity that presented itself.

My latest ventures as a long time artist chimp, is mainly concentrated in Long-form storytelling; nutritious documentaries from the heart... as well as my continual aspirations and pursuit towards feature filmmaking.

I have been blessed to have traveled (business/pleasure) to Italy, Japan, France, Austria, Germany, Mexico and Canada.
