Portrait of msparrelli
J Ross-Parrelli brings the freshest of jazz, reggae, old school hip-hop and Motown soul. Expanding minds to believe in dreams and remember what it is to be Human. Parrelli creates earthly music; make you feel good music; music that brings a fresh break to a busy day. Collaborating with artist such as KRS-One, Pharcyde, Arrested Development, Supernatural and Sizzla, Parrelli sets the stage for any audience.

It has been said that Parrelli’s voice resonates the sweet sounds of Aretha Franklin, Lauryn Hill and Ten Thousand Maniacs, Natalie Merchant. Parrelli’s voice has the soul of a gospel singer and the power and sultry of a great depression jazz singer. Her music has infused Latin grooves, soul, hip-hop, reggae, funk and jazz with uplifting lyrics and hard hitting rhythms. J Ross-Parrelli is a socially conscientious songstress. In an era of badly needed role models, Ross-Parrelli delivers a message of self-determination, strength and pride.

She has brought in an audience of all genres, all ages and all cultures.

Thus far J Ross has been able to share the stage with legends such as KRS-ONE, Pharcyde, Luciano, Jurassic 5 and Heart, Life and Soul; and has opened for numerous reggae and hip-hop legends. Arriving from a two month tour of Africa, Parrelli has reached an audience of more then 40,000 people. Headlining and performing at various festivals such as Mt Shasta Renegade Festival, North West World Reggae Festival, Sierra Nevada, Lafayette Music and Cultural Festival, Caesar’s Casino of Lake Tahoe and recently Nigeria’s Calabar World Music Festival. J Ross has also participated in the Cal State Long Beach Poetry Slam Team from 2004-2006, and has been awarded the Best Political Poem in the nation with “J Ross-Parrelli for President”.

Encompassing the community, by being apart of the J Ross-Parrelli Foundation, J Ross has donated time, money and energy to help piece together the beginning of a non-profit organization that helps to bring music and arts back in to the public system. Working with programs such as NOW (National Organization of Woman), ARC, the Long Beach Community Center for Youth and Young Adults, local libraries and Elementary Schools, J Ross-Parrelli hopes to further build a strong community of young artists. Eventually she plans to open an elementary school based on “a higher education for the lower-income student.”

Releasing Mixed Jams at the end of 2007, she is now working on her highly anticipated debut album, produced by Jamaica’s finest Groove Galore. Collaborating with artist such as Speech of Arrested Development, Pharcyde, Akil of Jurassic 5, Sizzla and the infamous freestyler, Supernatural, this album will be released the summer of 08’.
