About Mike Hirst
Yup, that’s me. (I actually took the earring out a few months ago - it just wasn’t me… haha). I’m 21 - my birthday’s September 4, 1986. My dad (who is an excellent singer/songwriter) taught me how to play when I was 12 or 13. He bought me my first electric guitar for my 13th birthday and shortly after gave me his Guild acoustic. This whole crazyness started out because I wanted to write a song for my first real girlfriend… and funny enough I know it will end while writing songs for my last real girlfriend :-) My beloved… I adore you so much!
On a religious note, I’ve been a believer in Jesus since I was 4… I actually remember praying that prayer on my bed after Sunday School. I just wanted to go to Heaven! But seriously, its so much more than that… I don’t think you can actually truly live until you accept that He died for you… what greater love are you looking for? (Thanks mom for your influence… I’d be one hell of a devil if it weren’t for you).
So I guess you could say I slowly grew to use my talents for God. I still write love songs, because I’m still a real person… I still write yelling songs when I get mad and I still write crying songs when I get sad - that’s just me.
When I graduated high school (Downingtown East represent) in 2005, I decided college wasn’t for me. I knew what I wanted to do, and a 4-year-degree wasn’t going to help but delay my dreams. **Don’t argue with me, I still believe I made the right choice** So here I am, still chasing after this obsession with music. I can’t help it - I breathe it… Its all I can think about… I wake up and fall asleep singing… its an endless song in my soul.
I’ve never been one to fit inside the box, and I’ve never been one to give up. I don’t accept the word “can’t”, and I believe impossible really is nothing. Maybe I was born with it, or maybe its something I picked up along the way, but I am a psychoticly driven individual. So don’t expect to hear this music stop for a long, long time. I’ll end with a line out of one of my favorite Anberlin songs…
“Its not about the money we make,
Its about the passions that we aim for,
What makes your heart beat faster.”
Love always,
Mike Hirst
