About Marina V
"If the Beatles & Tori Amos had a child raised in Russia by Tchaikovsky, that would be me," muses Russian-American singer/songwriter, Marina V. "My music is melodic and passionate, it comes from my heart and from everything I've experienced in my life."
The red-headed piano-playing songstress grew up in Moscow, blessed with an angelic voice & long last name (Verenikina.) Raised during the collapse of the Soviet Union in an educated but not wealthy family (communist nuclear physicist father & psychologist mother,) Marina attended a school of music every evening after regular school, and has written songs since early childhood. She surprised herself by winning a prestigious scholarship at 15 to study in America for a year. She came back to Russia but promised herself she would return to America and did, at 17, as her parents divorced and her mother left for Australia. Somewhere between visa issues, crazy odd jobs, missing her family, playing ice hockey and graduating from college in Illinois, Marina has been hard at work pursuing her musical dreams, touring and self-releasing several albums & various bootlegs.
In 2008, now Los Angeles-based Marina and her long-time collaborator, Nick Baker, released "Modern Fairytale", an exquisite new album in which elements of reality & dreams co-exist in a breathtaking and creative way.
With subjects such as love & loss, peace & war, struggle & success, togetherness & loneliness, intertwined with vivid fairytale images (ghosts, butterfly/guardian angels & such) Marina creates a magical yet realistic world, full of highs and lows. From the first notes of "Hope", through the happy beats of "Sunshine Guaranteed" to the longing words in "Babushka", sung in Marina's native Russian, "Modern Fairytale" is an enchanting collection of songs, through and through.
Managed by legendary manager, David Krebs (Aerosmith, AC/DC, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, etc), and supported by legions of loyal fans, the environmentally-conscious self-described “cultural ambassador of sorts” is currently touring internationally, inspiring people with her amazing music, unusual story & beautiful spirit.
