About Machiavellian

Portrait of Machiavellian
After hurtling across the Atlantic Ocean Machiavellian, the UK’s next biggest metal export, have orchestrated their invasion. Hailing from Skelmersdale England, Machiavellian is comprised of Ant Hurlock (Bass), Kris Smith (Vocals), Nick Swift (Drums), Ste Mitchell (Guitars) and Chris Garman (Guitars) and for the last three years they’ve been busy fusing together the sub-genres of thrash, death, doom, and stoner rock. They’re also ready to drive their own brand of metal directly into the heart of North America.

Formed in 2005, Machiavellian is a conglomerate of influences as their sound combines the band’s love for North American metal with their equally important European foundations. With bands such as Kreator, Dying Fetus, Morbid Angel and Crowbar stamping the creative direction of the band, Machiavellian clearly represent the hardened metal edge that has emerged from Europe in recent years. The band’s raw and pulsating sound made a quick impact and soon found them sharing the stage with the likes of Misery Index, Sikth, Skinlab, Dry Kill Logic and Job For A Cowboy shortly after their inception.

In early 2008, the band caught the interest of Year of the Sun Records and soon signed with the label in early 2008. The deal marked the first international signing by the Canadian label. "Machiavellian really points to the future of Year of the Sun," stated label president Chris Benn. "It's not that we're just excited to branch out into the European market, but we’re also excited to have been able to find such a promising band. We feel that North American metal fans will find the same kind of appreciation of Machiavellian’s brand of metal as we did."

The band’s debut EP, “The Impossibility of Death in the Minds of the Living” was recorded at Foel Studios in Wales under the guidance of producer Chris Fielding (Primordial, Napalm Death, Raging Speedhorn) with Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir) brought in to master the project. The result is an eclectic and powerful demonstration of the band’s raw metal fusion and passionate delivery. Tracks such as “Ranger” deliver a corrosive grind that’s only harnessed by the song’s crushing build while other cuts such as “Bone Island” and “Let My Home Be My Gallows” successfully exhibit the band’s ability to surpass their own musical threshold.

With their organism of sound already expanding and magazines such as Zero Tolerance hailing Machiavellian as “one of the most promising UK bands on the scene today” and it’s easy to understand why they’ve been able to rear their head with such ease. Regardless of country, demographic, continent or region, Machiavellian bring a sense of completeness to their artillery which will no doubt resonate with metal fans world wide.

FOR FANS OF: All Shall Perish, Mastodon, Misery Index and The Red Chord.
