Lindsay Smart was born in the small town of Sapulpa, Oklahoma to parents James and Robin Hunt. Her parents bought a house out in the country in Glenpool, Oklahoma to be able to raise their children (Lindsay and Jay Hunt) in a more stable enviroment. Lindsay's parents believed strongly in enriching them in the arts like music and drawing and always encouraged their creative minds.
Growing up, Lindsay remembers music always being a vital part of her everyday life..."There was always a Zeppelin album playing or Jimi Hendrix or the Beatles, you know the greats. I've learned to love 60's and 70's rock. That is, in my opinion, some of the greatest music. I've always been told I was born in the wrong generation. You just don't hear strong lyrics and music like that anymore, and its really sad..." These influences come out in Lindsay's writing and musical styles. Her songs range from real rock n' roll songs to folk ballads.
Lindsay started writing songs around age 12..."I remember I was in the sixth grade and I bought the Jewel album (Pieces Of You). I listened to those songs over and over and I remember thinking 'Wow! I really wish I could write like that!' So I started to write. They weren't anywhere near Jewel quality, [laughs] but that's where I started out." After writing songs for about a year, Lindsay decided that she wanted to be able to bring those songs to life. She started to become interested in guitar because her dad and brother both played, so she borrowed one of her dad's acoustic guitars and started learning. She listened to all kinds of music, developing a style, and figuring out chords. "I just listened to albums that I loved. I learned some simple chords and began to write songs off of those chords." Lindsay also decided to learn the piano so she could broaden the sound of her songs. She learned the piano the same way as guitar by listening to albums, and figuring it out on her own. But to this day, she still can't read music!
Lindsay has played locally in Tulsa, Oklahoma for about 5 years now. "I love a lot of the bands in the Tulsa music scene, and have grown close to quite a few of them, but there's just so far you can go there. Once you hit that limit your stuck. It really is sad there isn't more oppurtunity with the amount of talent that is in Tulsa." Wanting to persue her career in music, Lindsay and her family packed up and moved to Dallas Texas in the Fall of 2007. "My husband is so supportive of me and I'm glad I have someone who is whole-heartedly behind me. He believes in my music and really is a driving force in my life."
With a new music scene to conquer and a fresh start Lindsay is diving right in. "I love the atmosphere of this town. I really hope to do a lot here [with my music] and really make a career of this. Playing bars isn't what it's all about. Its about touching people with my music and being able to do what I love."
