Jami Jackson is a fresh new artist on the Blacque Records label electrifying audiences from New York through the Carolinas to Florida. This singer/songwriter is the whole package; she’s simply sultry, simply sensational, simply beautiful.
From an early age, Jami Jackson displayed a natural talent for singing and music. Growing up in her hometown of Durham, NC, Jami was a regular soloist and lead singer in the Peace Missionary Baptist Church--Spirit of Peace Choir; the choice singer of the National Anthem to open the Durham Bulls Baseball games; a welcomed performer at religious and civic events, in weddings, and in retirement homes; and she performed at several open mics, singing contemporary, pop, and R&B music around the Research Triangle area in North Carolina before starting college at Columbia University in New York City.
In New York City, Jami discovered open mics on a bigger stage. She began singing on mix tapes with V-Prod, a hip-hop production group made up of Columbia University students, and became known as Imajj. Then, Jami began to write lyrics and create melodies and a whole new talent began to grow and thrive in her. She started singing backup with the Plan B band in New York and she performed some of her original works on a variety of venues around the city.
After Jami presented and performed for Blacque Records her original song, The Way You Look At Me, it was clear that her talent merited all available investment from the new indie label. Jami Jackson’s fascinating debut album, "Call My Name" is like nothing experienced before; an eclectic combination of ballads, inspirations, motivations, passions, and stories that span a range of emotions. The lyrics are poetic, colorful, and fresh. The melodies and her performance are engrossing, heartfelt, and vision-provoking.
Jami performed at the Apollo Theatre and she performed at the Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar in New York two original songs, I’ll Let You Go, that she wrote, and Sista Girl, that she co-wrote with her mother, Sandra Jackson. The music industry experts and the audience simply exploded with excitement and participation at Jami’s performance of Sista Girl. Comments made about Jami and her performance from the music industry experts were, “… powerful voice”, “… a star”, “… beautiful, smart, the whole package”, “… songs are definitely hits”, “… protect that intellectual property”.
Jami Jackson is also an avid participant in her community. She performs for people living with HIV/AIDS through the program, Hearts and Voices, in New York City. The audience continues to want her back to sing. She is currently featured in a commercial for the Pos or Not campaign with MTVU and the Kaiser Foundation.

My Grandma's Birthday at the Duplin Winery
My Grandma’s 80th birthday party was a success! The theme was “We Celebrate Love” and we had a really great turnout. My grandma was so happy. We invited 120 of our family and friends and had 118 people at the event! Everyone had great things to say. My mom and aunts worked really hard to plan the event and had thoughful party favors for every guest. They gave pictures and handpainted rocks that had my grandma’s name and birthday on it. They also gave custom-made wrapping paper with chocolate that had her picture, name, and birthday, as well as tidbits of information on the back. My grandmother was born on July 12, 1928 and during that year, bread was 10 cents a pound, women gained voting rights, sugar was 35 cents for a five pound bag, and Mickey Mouse had his...
