Posted by Horrible John And Bellevue on Jun 19 at 5:57 AM EDTAnd Bellevue started when I was drumming on another project at Chris Saint’s studio and he generously offered to help me record some ideas I had – albeit the fact that I hadn’t recorded my “singing” before. I’m constantly reminding people that "I ain’t no singer," – I consider it narration to guide the listener through these little stories and vignettes. That began to change when John (SpeKc) Keeling got on board and we started the arduous task of recording Liquid Lamb. Later, enter keyboard savant Steven Coolidge who played on Way Back East. The three of us then began regular rehearsals and the first (more or less) collaborative result was Pig Juice – which incidentally almost blew my “voice” to smithereens. We have since jointly written a few more songs and have worked up a few covers from King Crimson, Tony Williams’ Lifetime, ELP and Mahavishnu Orchestra – in addition to two songs Steven had in the can already. That brings us to the conundrum of live shows; which have yet to be realized because we haven’t found a singer to fill that need – i.e., I can’t sing while playing drums in 5/4 - or 4/4, now that I think of it. So please listen with an open mind and stay tuned for new songs to appear as they are recorded. We will soon be creating a site for the bands’ collective material which may or may not appear under the Bellevue moniker, but will be linked here. Seems the only constant here is change.
