About goldenbear
In August 2006, Austin's Golden Bear announced itself to the world with a melodious roar. The band's self-titled debut, co-produced by Erik Wofford [My Morning Jacket, Explosions in the Sky, The Octopus Project], featured collaborations with luminaries of the Austin music scene including Will Oldham cohort Pink Nasty and pedal steel legend Lloyd Maines.
Rather than go into hibernation, the Bear spent most of December 2006 hunkered down in singer Chris Gregory's home studio, working on what would become their second album, "To the Farthest Star."
Golden Bear's guitar-driven, anthemic pop brims with a fist-pumping exuberance that's drawn comparisons to The Flaming Lips, My Morning Jacket and Arcade Fire -- and earned the Austin band a reputation as a force to be reckoned with.

Hey, guys! So my band's got a few songs on here, and I was looking through and found that you guys are on here, too, which completely freaked me out- no WAY can my garage-y little trio be competing with a band I love! Look, I got your debut record months ago (though my utter broke-ness has kept me from getting your new one yet, dammit), and A Reason To Be Proud has been my "get pumped up for band practices/shows" tune ever since. The fact that you guys aren't winning these contests is utterly gross, 'cause God knows you're better than most of what's on here...
So ok, I just wanted to let you know that someone is indeed listening to and digging what you do- and for what it's worth, I'm not even an indie kid (I'll be 40 in 2 wks.- argh- so I guess I'm an indie senior citizen or some such bullshit...), so you've definitely go appeal beyond the standard indie demo.
If you're so inclined, my band has somehow made it to the semifinals in the punk category; maybe you could help out a fan and vote for us if you don't think we suck too bad?
Either way, keep rockin', and I'll get your new record as soon as I can scrape a couple of pennies together...
