I'll tell you more about the album next time. One love!!! Genesis Ian was born in the Philippines, but was raised in between Kuwait and San Francisco, CA. He’s not just another face in the music scene, but the creator of a new genre of music. Not only is he a vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist, drummer, beat maker and songwriter, he also produces his own music and is skilled in a variety of different styles, such as hip-hop, rock, reggae, and pop. The result is something truly flavorful. Genesis also directs his own music videos. Genesis Ian is the son of legendary singer/musician Ramone Tzunakus. He has performed with other legendary musicians such as Wilby Flethcher (the drummer for Harry Belafonte) and Dexter Koonts (The guitarist for Miles Davis). Genesis Ian is currently part of the legendary production group, the Lab Ratz, which has already produced one of the most exciting debut albums this year. While most hip-hop songs are notorious for sparking controversy through profane lyrics, music under the Lab Ratz label offers a different kind of influence by expressing creativity without much profanity. “I write from the heart and real life experiences,” Genesis Ian said in regards to the inspiration behind his songs. Unlike many generic artists these days, just trying to sell an image without actually contributing anything to the music, Genesis puts his soul into what he does. He writes all of his lyrics and music and strives to produce a unique sound with every new song. “I want everyone to feel our music,” he continues, “and understand my history as an artist, my love, my joys, my struggles.” He has lived in the Philippines, Kuwait, France and the U.S. and his experience with so many different cultures has influenced his music greatly. It has no doubt inspired him to intermix several different types of musical genres, which adds to the matchlessness of his sound. One of Genesis Ian’s most eye-opening songs is “Rise”. In this song Genesis Ian visits the hardship of his childhood. At 4 years old his father and mother separated and then left him to live with his grandmother. They moved to a different country, to find a better way of life. “When my mother and father went away, it took a lot out of me,” Genesis expresses, “and then my grandmother had to leave 2 years shortly after that. My mother went away for 6 years and my father is still missing, to this day. Since I was only 4 at the time, I missed both of them like crazy, but I pulled through and used it as my motivation. “ ‘No Harm’ is a song that expresses my trust in the world,” He continues. “I know that I am not alone. It is a song to heal my heart and soul. "In the future I dream of being able to build new schools in poor countries. As an artist I want to bridge the gap between genres and break the molds of commerce music. As Bruce Lee and Jay Z said, style is a form of labeling. It divides us.” Most music labels told him that his music was too difficult to market, because he doesn’t stick to just one genre. Instead of compromising his music, he formed his own label - Lab Ratz. Genesis Ian is one of the producers of Lab Ratz, along with Justin Ranes and Kush. Justin and Kush have worked with many great artists already, and together with Genesis Ian, they have a powerful dynamic. Lab Ratz was formed in 2001 in a garage in Studio City, CA. Genesis Ian and Justin Ranes were introduced by a mutual friend and shortly after began mixing beats together. Kush was in the process of moving to California at that time. Once they all came together, the music they produced together was proof enough that Lab Ratz was on to something great.
