Ben Carter!
PRESS:
"...Howie Day's technique, Jason Mraz's style, John Mayer's look and Matt Nathanson's personality...He's everything good about the best singer/songwriters around today wrapped up into one."

“In my spare time I save stray puppies from burning buildings.”

This kind of statement isn’t out of the ordinary for Ben Carter. The 22-year-old fresh college graduate from the University of Rhode Island is as genuine as it gets. From his music to his everyday life you won’t find anyone like him.

Hailing from Andover, MA just 20 minutes north of Boston, Ben has spent the last 4 years winning people over with his honest, energetic and personable style of music.

“I think a lot of people will try to lump me in with all of the John Mayers and Howie Days, but I just won’t let that happen.”

With guitar in hand and a voice that demands attention he’s built up a small following of fans that he simply just refers to as “friends.”

On stage Ben grabs the crowd with his energy and over all nice-guy charm.

“You know, I think I smile too much…probably way too much, but I’m just always having fun.”

With changing set lists, and comical banter he turns every show into a one big hangout. In the past few years been has shared stages with the likes of Matt Nathanson, Piebald, Jack’s Mannequin, Virginia Coalition and others, all earning him commendable nods of the head.

Pulling inspiration from artists like Death Cab for Cutie, Guster, Phish and Motion City Soundtrack; it’s clear he should stand out from the sea of “white 20 something year old guys with an acoustic guitar.” To say he wears his heart on his sleeve seems "a bit too lame" as Ben would put it, when describing his lyrics.

“As cliché as it sounds I just write about my life and try to be as honest as I can be, no matter what and I think people can relate to that kind of honesty.”

From the all too personal song that’s clearly not about a girl named Mindi Hill, to the summer soaked Talk, Talk, Talk and the “I want that song for my wedding” Anna; it’s just plain good.

“I’ve spent the last few years writing whatever came to me and recording it all on my laptop in my room. Some people say it’s impressive, which is nice...but you can still hear my dog Maggie bark in background.”

With his boy next door looks and devil grin Ben is the friend you ask to play guitar at the party because you actually like hearing him play. He’s soon to become a favorite around your circle of friends too.
