Born in the Hub City of New Brunswick, New Jersey, Araena (uh-RAEN-uh) is definitely setting trends for a new type of sound she likes to call "post-modern rock". Heavily influenced by old school punk bands and rap artists of the 80s and early 90s, she has become determined to create something that will raise eyebrows!

So creatively impulsed by her life struggles, Araena picked up her first bass at age 15 and began creating her own songs and lyrics. "I became so captivated by rock music growing up. It was really taboo to be Black and Hispanic and to love rock music. I hope to change that!” says Araena. “I always found the awesome rebellious similarities between anarchist punk and rap music to be invigorating, and similarities in the lifesyles too.

“I just ran with it because it is simply music for people who are "outcasts" and liberal, " she continues. "I finally found a way to have a voice!"

How is this eccentric female beauty different than other female artists? Besides the fact that she is a young woman of color (which is rare in the rock scene), Araena is one of the few female artists who enjoys taking the front seat while songwriting. "I am the type of artist who could care less if I break a nail," she says, " and cares a lot about creating some seriously crazy ,cool, catchy music!" Araena’s lyrics are not only cutting edge, clever, and contagious they also give voice to some of the screaming skeletons in her closet. "I may be naked to the world, but I really want to share only what’s real,” Araena says. “I dare to talk about the things most people keep hidden to themselves".

Araena’s dark lyrics are delivered with punk style vocals. Her songs are backed with energetic hip hop/trip hop based drums, and attacked with raunchy Goth rock guitar riffs with an industrial vibe. "My goal is to create a sound that really captures the listener while enticing them to think outside of the box."

And so Araena’s mission begins!
