About Alex Pfeifer-Rosenblum

Portrait of Alex Pfeifer-Rosenblum
When Alex Pfeifer-Rosenblum first picked up his little red guitar at the age of just three and a half, one has to wonder if he knew even then the significance of that moment to the rest of his life. “Young rocker hopes to save the world” early headlines wrote, referring to his socially and environmentally conscious lyrics and fresh, folk-rock style that he developed as he performed throughout his youth at Bay Area venues such as La Pena and the Freight and Salvage. He certainly never could have imagined then the success of his first CD, named after the circle of green Adirondack chairs when he first entertained his community at such a young age. Alex had been writing songs and performing professionally for years by the time he released Green Chair Circle at the age of seventeen. In the opening lines of the first song, the listener is almost startled by the rich complexity of Alex’s voice. His full, warm baritone is complemented by a clarity and range that adds intensity to his sound. Alex employs a wide range of styles and topics, from the light-hearted bossa nova “Ariel” about a newborn baby to the bittersweet “Diamonds” or the heartbreaking “Just as Real.” Alex plays not only the guitar and vocals on the album, but bass and trombone as well. The album is accented by the incredible musicianship of Frank Martin (James Taylor, Elton John, Ray Charles) and Julie Wolf (Indigo Girls, Ani DiFranco, Dar Williams, Girlyman) on the piano.

Since the release of Green Chair Circle in 2005, Alex Pfeifer-Rosenblum’s style has evolved and blossomed. Now a college student at Wesleyan University, Alex's newest songs communicate emotion with a unique and eloquent brilliance: powerful, passionate, sometimes furious. His lyrics speak of soul-searching and internal struggles, and are defined by stark honesty and angry defiance that carries them forward. In “Light That Will Never Reach Me” he sings “I got the kind of blood that will never mend me/got the kind of skin that will never defend me/got the kind of heart that always tends to break.”

Alex’s new EP will feature five new tracks: the impassioned “Light That Will Never Reach Me,” the intimate “February Sky,” the magnificently soulful “Sea Change,” the moving “Reawakening,” and the epic title track, “Beautifully Impaired.” It is set to be released in August 2007.
