With their debut album Kick It, THE SHAKE has already propelled itself through the ranks of the NYC Indie scene. Produced by Al Perrotta (The Misfits, Herbie Hancock, Tony Bennett) and engineered by Brian Dozoretz (Interpol, Elefant) the CD showcases the talents of these four young artists who have brought their individual musical influences to the mix, creating something entirely their own. Already, in just over a year, THE SHAKE has shared the stage with internationally acclaimed acts such as the Living End, The Mooney Suzuki and Band of Thieves and played some of New York City’s most prestigious rock venues and even some unorthodox ones like the Registry Room at Ellis Island. All this while each member of the band spends his days as a full-time college student!
2007 saw THE SHAKE debut in film, as their track “Let Me Take You Far Away” was featured in the Robin Williams, Mandy Moore movie License to Wed and included on the soundtrack album alongside such heavyweights as the Beach Boys, Al Green and The Righteous Brothers. The band recorded concerts sets for Fearless Music and Breakthru Radio. Kick It has garnered ink in national magazines Magnet, Amplifier and Skope, as well as on the net on sites including Surviving the Golden Age, PopMatters, Lucid Forge and a feature interview with ACED Magazine. They filmed their debut music video for the single, “Manic Boogie,” with director Powell Weaver in Brooklyn, New York and somehow found time to stop in the studio to begin work on their sophomore album.

Merkin and Shapiro, former high school band mates, formed THE SHAKE in the summer of 2005 “after becoming disenchanted with the soulless, assembly-line music of contemporary bands that carbon-copy the sounds of their influences and then get lost in the shuffle.”
Unlike other groups, each member of THE SHAKE is schooled in a different style of music, and draws from a wide pool of influences including rock, blues, jazz, and punk. The result is what they call “a constantly evolving, more musically diverse style of rock that utilizes distinct melodies and harmonies in order to maintain a straightforward and familiar feel hearkening back to the days of the original British Invasion, when rock and roll could change the world.”
The Shake currently gig around the Northeast, spreading the gospel of Rock and Roll through their passionate and energetic shows.
