About the Artist

Hip-Hop may have been neglected by the fairer sex as of late, with starving fans left looking aimlessly for a strong female able to take the reins and re-enforce just why a universal Rapstress is required. Just as certain icons may have relinquished their responsibilities, leaving a wide-open space for the imminent generation of femcees to stake their claim on the void, one young lady has been patiently waiting in the wings.

Now charging along at breakneck speed this thoroughbred MC hailing from Columbia, South Carolina has the capabilities to make a difference. Embodying tenacity, dexterity and an undeniable love for the performing arts, TLM, The Lyrical Maze, has been developing her skills from the tender age of nine. Honing in on her talent and nurturing her extensive vocabulary that emerged through effortlessly penning poems and short stories in her teen years, TLM has cleared hurdles that only few successfully manage.

Her poetry and stories soon turned to Hip-Hop rhymes driven by powerful metaphors and similes delivered through matchless wordplay. Heavily influenced by the likes of Slum Village, Anita baker, The Fugees, Aaliyah, Jill Scott, TLM has absorbed various genres of music in her quest for notoriety. She embraces the high energy of Dance music as she does the classic boom-bap sounds of Hip-Hop and the melodies and intimacy of Soul, strains of which are easily recognizable in her own songs.

TLM’s multi-faceted approach to music has secured her shows throughout the country, appearing alongside KRS One, opening for Crime Mobb and Raekwon and as a headliner for The NWO World Warriors Tour 2008. Fuelled by her determination to bring authenticity back to Hip-Hop, TLM was also ranked 5th internationally, in the Ourstage.com T Pain competition.

Having been anointed a member of the Temple of Hip-Hop founded by KRS One, the positivity she oozes and the recognition she has for the Hip-Hop culture is apparent to those whom have encountered this true woman of substance. With her debut album, aptly titled, Acronyms available this summer through various digital and online providers, TLM is confident that she is the lyricist to fill that wide-open space which is dire need of occupation.

Hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, this young lady exudes not just talent but an abundance of dedication mingled with an air of reliance. With a love for performing apparent in her stage presence and a unique lyrical and vocal prowess TLM has the potential to dictate the blueprint for the next generation of acclaimed femcees. Embracing a truly diverse list of influences from various genres, TLM has concocted her own inimitable style. Armed with an ability to switch from lyricist to vocalist with undeniable ease, TLM is fueled by an intent to provide listeners with a product laced with truth, honesty and passion. As part of the Militant Muzic family, an up and coming powerhouse housing a bevy of nationally established artists, TLM like her fellow brethren enjoys breaking borders and pushing boundaries beyond the usual industry standards. It looks like the time has finally arrived to welcome a new generation of female performers capable of providing fans with what has been somewhat temporarily forgotten.

Hailing from Columbia, South Carolina TLM (The Lyrical Maze) represents hard for true female MCs. With no gimmicks and no sexually charged sales bids – just straight skills and rhymes – it is of little suprise that she has been picked up as a member of The Temple Of Hip-Hop by KRS One. Bringing lyrical firepower with the straight spitting ‘Salt and Pepper’ TLM shows that she can stand side-by-side with the men before ‘Dreamin’ lets her flip her skills further, also showing that she can sing as well as rap while demonstrating that she is hard to beat on the mic. The heat continues across the album as TLM holds her own alongside her guests and in so recalls the straight spitting skills of names like MC Lyte, Nonchalant and Bahamadia. Not to say TLM is not her own woman, but just that she sees no need to bow down to marketing ploys, instead letting her ability speak for itself. Of course this is 2009, so ‘Get Away’ offers some fine commercial-minded autotune flavor to ease matters along before ‘Mr Funkadelic’ lets TLM show her story-telling skills. With plenty of highlights, TLM shows that she is a skilled MC regardless of her gender, while also showing the self-confessed influence of Jill Scott on her music on tracks like ‘Seasons.’ That she can outsing many R&B singers and, at the same time outrap many MCs is testament to TLM’s talent. However, TLM is also willing to let others shine as names like Big Bub, B 4 Reel and others are given the chance to introduce themselves. There are points where TLM doesn’t quite match her beats to her own skills, such as on ‘Times Up,’ but even here her ability carries the track to make it better than the most solid efforts of many other artists. The fact is, that while you may not have heard TLM on regular rotation on the radiowaves, she has skills that should see her become a household name in hip-hop. ‘Magnificent’ sees TLM trade bars with Chiz DiBiase over a bumping beat and synth backing before ‘Swag’ allows her to drop some straight-up hip-hop posturing. Dreaming on a better tomorrow, TLM drops the fine ‘Some Day’ before taking a look over her shoulder and showing her love for music on the autobiographical ‘Time Goes By.’ ‘Me And My Guitar’ lets TLM both rap and sing before the ‘Outro’ closes matters out. Truly talented and with a straight-up no gimmicks approach to her music TLM recalls the talents of an on-point and hungry Lauryn Hill. Here’s hoping that she can get the props she deserves on her own account. If she does she may just take over the game with her own brand of hip-hop miseducation. Don’t sleep on this one…

Hailing from South Carolina, TLM is a bonafide all rounder. With a vocal talent that can see her switch from a competent lyricist to a soulful songstress in a matter of bars, this singing, rapping, dancing sensation has the floor to herself.

Recognizing the lack of female presence in the Hip-Hop, TLM is ready to reassert some of the authority that the femcees of the 80’s and 90’s had to their credit on this side of the new Millenium.

Inspired by many and yet still able to shroud herself with her own personal cloak of uniqueness TLM is already marking her territory. With her relentless work ethic in place and her team building bridges in the background, nothing can prevent this young South Carolina native from reaching the top.
