KOAR'S new pick! by
KINGS OF A&RKOARs new pick is Shannon Nicole who hails from St Louis, Missouri. Her music roots stem from the time she spent in Texas which are evident in her southern rock/pop crossover style. We are finding out that other industry execs are as impressed as we are. Check out the track Mama Raised You Right. Singer Shannon Nicole went from selling ads for St. Louis radio station Y98 (KFKY-FM 98.1) to gaining a spot on the station's play-list for her song "Buses and Trains." Nicole is a native of Killeen, Texas, who used to sing background in St. Louis for rock band On Tracy Lane. She moved to St. Louis "for a boy in a band," dating On Tracy Lane lead singer Darryn Yates at the time. "He always said I wasn't going to be a backup singer forever," she says. Nicole stayed with On Tracy Lane for 18 months, then hooked up with Gertken last year. He'd been bugging her to record with him. She agreed, then moved to Nashville, Tenn., figuring it made sense to be in a major music city. Much of that, however, may fly out the window by the time the CD is finished. She says the label may reposition her as a country-pop singer. "I'm fine with that as long as I get to sing," Nicole says.
LOCAL GIRL TALKS ABOUT WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE IT by Heidi Glaus - KSDK Channel 5
As Shannon Nicole tries to climb over a little fence you realize graceful probably isn't a way to describe herm but it is proof she is willing to do what it takes, even for an interview. That's basically what she's been doing for the last year to strum up interest in her music career and it appears her hard work is starting to pay off since she recently heard her first single on Y-98 FM. Once she had her mind made up she put the pedal to the metal, signed a record deal with Universal Republic, the same label that carries Colbie Callet and Amy Winehouse. That's when the chaos slowly began. "I truly believe it's about who you know. I think 10 percent is talent and 90 percent is everybody else." Now with her new manager, clothes, buffer body and of course great voice, Shannon Nicole is armed and ready to make it big. Shannon thinks her album will come out around September but you can hear her single on Y-98 and you can also download it on I-tunes, Wal-Mart.com, Amazon.com and Rhapsody.
HOMETOWN HOTTIE OPENING FOR JOSS STONE by Kevin C. Johnson - STL Post Dispatch
Summer music’s blank spots are filling in quickly now that Fair St. Louis Foundation has taken the lid off of its Live on the Levee and Fair St. Louis lineups, with hometown hottie, Shannon Nicole. Joss Stone, Black Crowes, Anthony Hamilton, One Republic, and Boyz II Men are also among the highlights this year. One great thing about the events, besides the obvious headliners, is the events often give smaller, local support acts their largest audience ever. All concerts are free, and take place on the St. Louis riverfront.
