RonHitz home hard, and hitz the ground running wit
“Destination Naught, “ definitely a descriptive mirror image for the times and social climates in America right now as seen through the eyes of one of indie music’s most unsung, no bull, nonconformist artists to date, Ron Hobson(Hitz). Boasting abstract sounds along with lengthy, highly conceptual, lyrical anthems, the album is Ron’s biggest to date and was over one year in the making.
The “Destination Naught,” RonHitz local live tour 2007, really reflected the energy and common discontentment with government, mass media, arrogance and wastefulness of big business in America today. Even though most of the venues were very small, audiences were listening and were extremely receptive to this rebirth of the Ron Hobson Live Show.
Then, bursting through the serious apocalyptic overtones of the more unusual conceptual pieces, were the instrumental pieces such as “Buy Here, Stay Here,” encapsulating such a rudimentary musical free for all on keys and guitars that you felt you were somehow watching “RedZeppelin” instead of RonHitz(referring to Ron’s red hair and his classic retro sound, look and appeal on stage). Consequently, this tour also gave Ron a huge opportunity to revamp some of his older pieces from similar, less quality, lo-fi releases like “About Face” and other good quality releases such as “Physical Science” and “Gone.”
For an album that was unplanned from the beginning, and literally came out of a time of desperation and despair, “Destination Naught” sure has turned out to be just the opposite of what the name implies for RonHitz. Selling more copies to date than almost any other RonHitz release outside of “Gone,” this release has literally pulled Ron back into his music and in turn back into the business. “We can’t move the cds over the internet, but we can’t ever make up enough for audiences at the live gigs,” Ron says laughing. It would seem that “Destination Naught” and the live energy that it has bolstered has created even more sales for the older, more obscure RonHitz releases and this fact really gives Ron a great feeling.
“Audiences aren’t stupid, most can actually see through all the corruption, big money glam, hype and rederick that exists even in the music industry in America today and I believe that they are literally sick of it! That’s really why cd sales are down, not just because of the mp3 indie revolution on computers. This is what “Destination Naught” is really about! The underlying greed and corruption that most average Americans like me really can’t do anything about except voice their opinions, in some cases,” Ron says.
“Destination Naught” brings a voice of common discontent to the RonHitz listeners/fans and offers a classical sense of rock’n’roll balance amidst the storm. A very deliberate political release which has gained Ron’s compositions some well deserved attention.
