About Philadelphia Slick

Often described as a mix of Aesop Rock and The Roots' early work, Philly Slick returns on Oil with concentrated rhythms, mesmerizing lyricism, and lush vocal and horn melodies. Lead emcee Noesis continues to uproot the predictability of today’s hip hop lyrics with rhymes and stories about food, stock markets, guns, and earth evacuations. New drummer El Smooth handles most of the production, raps several verses and sings background vocals as well.
Philadelphia Slick brings an energetic stage presence known for non-stop strings of songs, as well as medleys of favored hip hop classics. Their shows often feature horns, singer Jenn Z., and projections controlled on stage - a highlight of the band's album release show on May 11th, 2009 at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. While Slick has played with as many as twelve musicians on stage, the group's vivacity remains in tact when performing with four or five members.
