About Morris Kee

Morris Kee, born and raised in the river city of Memphis Tenn. And graduated high school there before moving to Texas at the age of 18. Growing up in an violent home Music was his main outlet, and fist love. While at a friends house he herd a friends father performing in a rehearsal he became fascinated with the drums. He began taping on everything he could find as it seemed he could hear every subtle detail of the drums when he herd music played on the radio. At the age of thirteen while at a home of a friend a local Memphis drummer “Bill Barnes” After hearing Morris play was amazed that Morris had taught himself to play without lessons or a actual drum kit. So Bill Barnes gave Morris Kee his first drum kit, and Morris was off and running.
Morris loved music intensely, but fell into the trap of the 70’s {drugs}. This robbed Morris of his dedication to the art and put music a close second to his new love. Drinking at age nine, smoking pot at age eleven, and hard drugs, and needles by the age of thirteen. Morris gave up his dreams of performing and chased the high. He got into trouble as a teenager, and wound up on probation a couple of times, but continued to love music and learned to play the drum kit given to him.
At the age of seventeen looking older and able to get into most of the local clubs Morris met Hi Ho Jim Sylvia, a Local drummer performing at the Expo Disco in Memphis who became somewhat of a mentor to Morris Teaching him to play rhythms that were more advanced. Morris also learned to be a disc jockey from local DJ’s Steve White, and Rick Dees. Morris went on to become an established nightclub Disc Jockey himself. At clubs like, Paris Tn.’s 2001, Mineral Wells TX, Cowboy Disco, Mineral Wells TX, Holiday Inn, and more.
In the 80’s after the death of Disco Morris Kee made the transition to Gentlemen’s club DJ where drugs sex, and rock n roll took its toll on Morris in more ways than one. Eventually gaining a reputation as a “hype” it became impossible to find work and make even a bad living.
Morris wound up in Houston TX, Where he began injecting cocaine. In less than six months he was living on the street under a bridge outside of Houston close to the truck stops where he panhandled money. Nearly starved to death and hopeless he attempted suicide, at which time he had a spiritual awakening.
Morris cleaned up in Narcotics Anonymous, on September 23rd 1991.
The journey in recovery has been difficult but a journey none the less. Living in San Antonio TX and going to meetings there he found a drum kit at a yard sale for $75.00 and joined a band of other addicts in recovery. He went to Texas A&M and got a degree in computers. After a divorce he moved to Springfield MO where he now lives. Morris drives a big truck for a living and after becoming frustrated with not being able to get a new band going had all but given up. Today’s new technology has given morris the chance to have an outlet for his life’s love. Finding it easy to write while driving Americas highways and byways.
He has A small Studio in his home and in the past years has taught himself to play guitar and bass. He does his own compositions, arrangements and recording with help from no one in hopes some one will like his work and wish to buy some of his material. Morris is now 49 years of age and continues to try to give music his all.
