Brian Rook went to college at Henderson State University where he met a couple of guys that would influence his music for years and years to come. There he formed the band County Line that consisted of Kyle Tschepakow, Ty Mormon, and later Jacob Mills. During that year songs such as, Fickle Sanity, Train to Memphis, and Outburst were written. Brian had kept in touch with a friend from high school, T.K. Archibald, and in the summer of 2004 both of them were offered a job with Jacob and Kyle to play for a camp in Little Rock, Arkansas. There, they wrote Faces, Poe, and No Man’s Land during that summer. They set up their first show with T.K., the newest member of County Line. At that time, the band consisted of T.K. on drums, Jacob on bass, and Brian on rhythm guitar. Shortly after, they met Eric, and knew he was the perfect fit for their music. With the addition of Eric, they were ready to play shows. T.K. ended up transferring from Texas Tech in 2005 to Henderson State to be with all of the band members. In February of 2005, they recorded their first EP that consisted of the songs Faces, Blinded, Burn, and Fickle Sanity. Morale was down in April. The combination of school, work, and the fact that Arkansas was more of a heavy metal music scene took its toll and discouraged the band to the point that they discussed ending County Line. The very next day that they discussed to stop playing altogether, they received a phone call from a former coworker from the camp. He had given their CD to a friend of his parents who formerly was heavily involved in the music industry. She felt the band had a nice radio worthy sound and began helping them move forward. This gave them the drive and desire to continue doing what they were doing and not give up. The now friend and “band mom” discussed County Line with some other people she knew in the industry. Word got back to the band about this and it was mentioned that they should continue their efforts. Additionally, it was stated that County Line needed to be changed because it did not really fit their style of music. They said sounded like it should be a country band. Taking the advice into consideration, the guys eventually came up with the name Lost July. The summer of ‘05, Eric and Jacob sacrificed going to their own homes and went to the Dallas area where Brian and T.K. lived to work and play music in between semesters. They grew quite a fan base in the Dallas area and continued with their passion. The fall of 2005, Lost July split up after bass player Jacob Mills decided that he had different priorities and did not want to be in the band anymore. Eric, Brian, and T.K. decided that they wanted to keep the music up but T.K. decided it was best for him to go back to Texas Tech to finish up his degree. The idea of getting back together never got stale. T.K. asked colleague Matt Kennedy if he wanted to move to Austin after graduation and play bass for the band. Matt said yes and after three long years, Lost July came back together. They are now in Austin, Texas pursuing their dreams and have devoted their lives to their passion.
