J Swift Interview in Rapsoulution Magazine
J Swift
Interview by Ms Anna
J Swift , what's good with you? Just makin moves every chance I get.
Would you tell our readers what "J Swift" stands for ? J Swift stands for lyrics, imagery, &
authenticity. A lot of current rappers lack substance. I feel like I can fill that void with my music
.
Growing up, who were your biggest musical influences? My biggest influence was Jay-z. He
showed dominance in all aspects of the rap game. He showed us the hood songs, the party tracks,
and good business moves. You also gotta respect his longevity.
Talk to me about your single 'Dance 4 Me'. "Dance 4 me" is my brand new club record. My
female fans kept asking me for party song, so I gave em one. I'm just trying to show diversity in
my music. I'll make the catchy club hit if that's what it takes to get a record deal. I can do it all.
What else have you released so far ? I released my first complete album *Street Buzz* back
in May. I named it that because once you have the streets buzzin, the rest usually falls into place.
I got a lot of good feedback & sold a little over 10,000 copies.
What would be your dream collaboration? I'd have DJ Khaled introducing the track & get the
listener hype. Then I'd have Rick Ross, T.I., Jeezy, Weezy, & myself spit consecutive verses. I think
that get some attention.
How do you feel your music will affect its listeners? I want my music to get you throughout
your day or situation. I want my songs to remind you of something special.
So what's next for you as an artist and what are your goals ?I'm still looking for a good
record label to call home. I've had a few meetings but the offers weren't what I expected, so I'm
holding out for something better. I just wanna build my fan base, drop a classic debut album, &
win a few awards.
For those who are not familiar with you yet, where can people hear your music ? My
official website is www.JSWIFT.us but you can hear me in the clubs & on the radio also.
What's your show schedule like, do you have any performances coming up? Right now
I'm part of the Southern Smoke College Tour with DJ Smallz. We opened up at Florida A&M
university & that was a good start. We have a lot more stops so be on the look out.
What do you hope to be your greatest contribution to Hip-Hop? I hope I can leave my
mark as a lyricist. I wanna be remembered as having excellent wordplay & going hard on every
verse, every song.
Close out as you like, any shout-outs or comments? I wanna shout out my hood. Port
Tampa! Stand up! Shout out to all the DJ's who play my music. Last but not least, shout out to my
fans. I do it for yall. www.Jswift.us
