I got my start in the mid-90's as the singer for Sony/Columbia recording artist Sweet Vine, a "jam" band in the vein of Blues Traveler, The Allman Brothers and the Black Crowes. The band released one self-titled album in 1997, produced by Michael Barbiero, a multiple Grammy winning producer.
After internal strife tore the band apart and the album failed to chart, the members of Sweet Vine went their separate ways and I moved to Los Angeles a couple years later to work with a friend at FOX television.
In 2003, three of the founding members of Sweet Vine rejoined for a project called Looking Star which produced a five song demo and then succumbed yet again to internal strife.
I struck out on my own, determined this time to record a solo record more reflective of my diverse taste in music and my 80's pop sensibilities. I built a small project studio in my home and over the course of more than two years, penned, played and produced almost everything on the record.
The record is a vibrant mix of upbeat, multi-layered pop confections created from influences such as Beck, Peter Gabriel, The Talking Heads, "Kick" era INXS and old school soul and motown.
The full length record, entitled "Up Is The Only Way Out" is wrapping now for a release in time for Christmas '08.
The E.P. will be available through iTunes and other major online retailers on or before December 10th.
I will begin touring the west coast region of the United States in spring of '09 in support of the album. I also play shows under the name of "Life As We Know It".
