Carly Miller
I am an 18 year old college student who has basically been messing around with the keyboard and guitar in her room since she was nine years old. I can't really pinpoint who or what inspires me, but the melodies trickling around in my head...those funny ones that I hum in the shower or as I'm cleaning up my room...When I was 17, after I'd filled up nearly an entire journal of songs, I decided it was probably time I make a CD. I grabbed my best friend Michelle, a talented lyricist and singer, and together we laid down 7 tracks over a few weeks.
I tend to compose romantic ballads, folk-ish acoustic songs or celtic pieces that I either record myself or record at a friend's home studio. I've been playing the piano for...er...alot of years. Somewhere between twelve and fifteen? Nevertheless, don't bother to place a piece of sheet music in front of me. I'm dreadful with the classics, and I'm one of those musicians who doesn't particularly care to know the technical definition of a A-7 augmented chord or something like that. Ergo, I write what I feel and don't adhere to a particular style or rules.
My favorite musicians are three lovely women I respect quite deeply: Enya, Carly Simon, and Judy Collins.
Future plans? Well I might be transferring to film school in the fall, but I am on the brink of a crossroads here, to be kind of cliched, and I believe I might pursue a full career in music.
