About Bote

Bote offers a fresh perspective in the broad genre of folk rock music. The mix of traditional folk tunes from the sea fairing port towns across the western hemisphere and eclectic originals makes Bote a stand out in the music scene today.

Bote crosses stylistic borders, merging bluegrass, blues, roots, rock, and country into one pulse pounding musical experience. Whether it's the uplifting sound of reggae-tinged "All Day Long" or the laid back rollicking melody of "Harbour LeCou," Bote will take you on a voyage like never before.

Releasing their first album (Work and Worry) in early summer of 2009 Bote will set sail for the high seas of the greater upstate SC music arena. Already developing a steady following at small venues, where they've been fortunate to more than double the regular patron count, Bote intends to carry that small success into larger proportions.

Bote's repertoire of originals include the whimsical ballad "Barnacles on the Hull", a collaborative effort by Brendan Poole and Timothy Keeley. Also featured on the debut is the poetically driven "Bout with Fate", another Keeley composition. "Calls My Name" and "Our Destination" are two more tunes that are carried away in the vast folklore of oceanic sailing. "All Day Long" closes out the 15-track album with the driving force of anti-commercialism.

If it's thoughtful lyrics, catchy melodies, tight instrumentation, or merely a trip to a place apart from where you currently sit, Bote can deliver. Good musicianship coupled with high energy performance is something not-so-easily discovered on the folk/underground circuit.

A band surrounded by other musicians needs to find a way to stand out, or they simply just "do". Bote is unique enough that it merely happens without attempt. That much will keep fans coming back for more in the future.
Genres: Acoustic, All Instrumental, Cover Bands, Folk, Indie Pop, Soft Rock, Traditional Country, World
Members:
Timothy Keeley: bodhran, concertina, harmonica, world percussion, flutes/recorders/pennywhistles, and lead vocals

Eric Berthold: lead guitar (electric and acoustic), backing vocals

Dwayne Grassie: rhythm guitar, backing vocals, acoustic bass

Freddy Smith: bass, rhythm guitar, banjo, backing vocals
Setup Requirements:
We have our own equipment. Depending on the venue, whether they supply equipment or not, we can play for a crowd of about 300 (tried doing it with more and sort of drowned out, not loud enough overall).

Tim has his own drum mics, vocal mics, of which he prefers to use.

For venues with supplied equipment, we need 4 vocal mics, a PA (we can bring ours if needed), three instrument cables (1/4"). The drum mic requires an XLR extension cable, which we can bring as well.
