About Adlai Waxman1

Adlai Waxman began writing songs and playing in bands in Toronto, Ontario where he grew up. He studied piano, organ, accordion, and singing. With his multi- instrumental talents, he became a session player for bands and recording sessions across North America. Adlai is now currently splitting his time between Toronto and Nashville and has also been on the road promoting and performing his new material from Down At Joe's. Dividing his time between Nashville and Toronto, Adlai earns his keep as a professional musician devoted to the craft of songwriting and performing. Adlai's musical adventures have taken him across Canada and the United States performing to enthusiastic crowds. His touring highlights include: Opening for Twelve Against Nature (tribute band to Steely Dan) in Nashville; Red Gorilla Music Festival in Austin TX; The Living Room in New York; the North By North East music festival in Toronto; the Vancouver Jazz festival; SUNY University of Plattsburgh, New York; Oz's music space in Ann Arbor, Michigan; and New York and Cumberland County College in Vineland, just to name a few. In 2004 Adlai independently put together his EP "Pomona Valley" and followed up in 2005 with "Flight 73" which scored him three number one hits on The CBC New Music Canada Charts. Both discs were a great introduction to Adlai's unique songwriting and sound. In 2004 legendary producer Jerry Wexler (Ray Charles and Bob Dylan) personally called Adlai after hearing "Pomona Valley" to offer him career guidance. Adlai recalls this exciting connection as a very special moment and a career highlight. In January of 2008, Adlai caught the ear of Toronto indie label Marshmellow Records. By February 2009 Marshmellow Records released his first full length CD which showcases Adlai's fresh musical approach and original melodic compositions. Adlai Waxman's songs shine with a style that pushes the boundaries of piano pop music. Words like, "genuine, eclectic, witty and sophisticated" are often used to describe this singer-songwriter's exceptional sound. Fusing elements of pop/rock, jazz and folk, Adlai's music combines clever songwriting, melodic piano compositions, and a distinct yet familiar vocal style. As a new generation talent, he brings forward a sound that emanates with the influence of songwriters Randy Newman, Joe Jackson, Robbie Robertson and Donald Fagan. His vocal style remains distinct, complete with his own contemporary spin. Adlai's CD features an incomparable mix of old and new sounds by blending the textures of both acoustic and electric instruments such as the accordion, violin, upright bass, acoustic guitar, piano, and electric keyboards. The result is a well-crafted album with catchy pop songs that showcase Waxman's own original modern twist on this time-tested genre.
