About 420 Funk Mob
There is nothing quite like the 420 Funk Mob, Mike Clip Payne's "Off Days" project that features a revolving cast of current and former members of Parliament/Funkadelic along with an all star squad of musician friends that reads like a Whose Who list of legendary performers and up and coming artists. The result is a band that cuts across all musical boundaries with a blistering attack of Funk, Soul, straight up Jammin and smokin' Rock N Roll. A true mob of musicians, from different genres, places and times united by their dedication to groove. You never know what may happen at a 420FM show. Who may show up as part of the band? What songs are they going to play? Who might be the nights special guests? Even the make up of the band can change. The 420FM has been everything from a striped down 6 piece Psychedelic Funk Rock Band to an 18 piece Funkestra with horns, strings, four or five guitar players and assorted background singers.
In order to claim to be a mob, you have to have a crew. The more diverse and widespread the better. 420 has crew that is just like air. They are everywhere. 420FM has featured P-Funks; Lige Curry, Mike Kidd Funkadelic Hampton, Garry Starchild Shider, Gabe Gonzalez, Billy Bass Nelson, Boogie Mosson, Rodney Skeet Curtis, Greg Thomas and Danny Bedrosian to name just a few.. They are frequently joined by members of WEFUNK's Woodstock posse; Zach Alford (B52s, Gwen Stefani), Adam Widoff (x-Lenny Kravitz), Chicken Burke (Big Lovely), Peter Keys (MuzikMafia, SeepeopleS), Joey Eppard (3), Avalon (Mechanical Bull) The LAW (Planet 12, Amy Winehouse), Ted Orr (Blob) and the Wefunk Horns, Dean Jones, Shane Kirsch, Paul Henderson and Dave CasT.
Toss in special guests like George Clinton, Fred Wesley from the JB's, Jazzman Stanley Jordan, the Bad Brains founders Dr. Know and Daryl Jenifer, French Pop Star Matthew"M" Chedid, Super Discounts Alex Gopher, Stokholm Syndrome's Eric McFadden, Violinist Lili Haydn, DJ Logic, or the MuzikMafia's Jon Nicholson, James Otto,Shannon Lawson and Jerry Navarro, you have a mob. Mixing and matching, forming a band by handpicking the best crew from a gang of musicians. Thats the power of the Mob...The 420 Funk Mob.
The 420 FM began making history right from the start. The bands first and second shows sold out New York City's TRAMPS in a matter of hours. The 420FM International crew were the featured musical guests on the Canal + celebration of France’s World Cup victory. A cable and satellite TV special that was viewed by over ten million people across Europe.
In 2000 the 420FM were one of the early pioneers of broadband internet web casting. Streaming both the audio and video from the weeks rehearsals leading up to the first 420FM Super Meltdown TripFest. Live in real time. Turning the whole thing into a live interactive event with fans from all around the world picking the songs and make requests via email. The 420FM was the official ESPN/NFL Tailgate Party Band at Superbowl 39 where they appeared under the politically correct banner “Wefunk FM” on a stage set up in the stadium parking lot.
Their European concert debut at the Chillen Drone Festival was simulcast on Radio and Television in Spain. In Germany the 420FM with special guests George Clinton, Fred Wesley and DRUGS headlined the Audiosoul Festival. A music and media festival that took place in the courtyard of the famed Heidelberg Schloss. The 1200 year old Castle ruins that during the day are Europe’s third largest tourist attraction. The Funk Mob have also been showcased at the legendary CMJ Conference in New York and were the first band to perform live on Sirius Satellite Radio’s first day of world wide internet broadcasting on Halloween in 2006.
Legendary Funk pioneer George Clinton had his first 420 experience in 2001 at New York’s historic club Wetlands, followed it up with sold out shows at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park and the Haunt in Ithaca, a two show day at Bard and Vasser colleges in upstate New York. Then finished off the weekend with an appearance at the High Times Stoney Awards in New York City. Clip and George sat in with the High Times Band and in the main event of the evening George presented rapper Snoop Dog with the Stoner of the Year Award.
When the Press asked George about his first appearance with the 420 Funk Mob all he could do was smile. “It was like 1969 all over again.” Since that day 420FM became George’s “Other Band” that he sits in with regularly where he gets to just let it all go, be one of the band and have some straight up fun. “The 420 FM quickly created a deeply woven fabric of funk layers that brought the audience into frenzied dance late into the night,” stated a review in the Times.
420FM has released two critically acclaimed albums from the WEFUNK Ad2K Live Concert archives. The first “Live on the Off Days” features performances from the bands very first show at Tramps in 1997 thru their sold out shows at Welands in 2001. The double cd showcases the bands revolving line up featuring apparances by Bad Brains Dr. Know and Daryl Jennifer, Jazzman Stanley Jordan, and Pfunk’s Mike Kidd Funkadelic Hampton, Shelia “Amuka” Horn and Andre Foxxe.
The release of their second album "Alive in Spain" prompted Jambase.com to call the 420FM “a band determined to build on the legacy of George Clinton... if not the full blown return to the Pedro Bell era of Funkadelic glory". The three cd set features the band as a 21 piece Funkestra that included special guests George Clinton, Garry Starchild Shider, Violinist Lili Hayden (Herbie Hancock), Drummer Zach Alford (B52's, Gwen Stefani) the Wefunk Horns Shane Kirsch and Dean Jones.
The 420 Funk Mob. Whatever it takes, Whatever the party calls for. A Mob of world class musicians dedicated to the preservation and the motivation of the motion of hips!

Paradise Found 420 Funk Mob Alive in Spain
Led by Parliament-Funkadelic alumni Clip Payne and Garry Shider, this riotous Mob (420 Funk Mob) dips a wet finger into early '70s Funkadelic. The 'lectric Kool-Aid they offer is vividly hued, sweet, granular. This 3-CD European debut was recorded live after just three hours of rehearsal. With 20 people going at it, things can be a bit of a mush, but the weird bubbles up readily and frequently, setting them apart from today's P-Funk oldies revue. The wind falls out of a few cuts midway, but then a carnal sax or madness-flecked keyboard offers subtle variations on the theme, riding the handclap current until the songbirds and trombones soar. Bonus DVD footage from 2004 fills in the visuals, revealing a band intent on living new chapters in the George Clinton legacy. The be-dreaded one even joins them in Spain, offering his own funky anointing to the proceedings. This is solid stuff if not the full blown return to Pedro-Bell-psychedelic-glory one might want.

Bring Back the Funk Parliament Funkadelic Lives On
The Parliament/Funkadelic legacy lives on with the formation of two spin off bands 420 Funk Mob and DRUGS..........Arranged with filtered vocals, psychedelic melodies, gut-wrenching rhythms, wah-wah pedals, thick bass lines and Clips coarse dense tone, the 420 Funk Mob and DRUGS sound like a medley between some spunky Grateful Dead and a Jimi Hendrix style jam session........

420 Funk Mob at the Audiosoul Festival
"The fans, mostly below 30, went fully into ecstasy. Everyone in the Castle Courtyard was dancing.People were jumping up and down, throwing thier hands in the air with the funk sign salute. The driving sound of the Funk Mob with special guest Fred Wesley, had the entire crowd swaying to the Seductive Psychedelic Funky Rhythms." ..... 420FM at the State Theater
What went on in Falls Church Thurs. night was one of the best Funkadelic shows I've ever seen. The setlist was an old Maggots dream turned reality. They oozed out that old vibe and some serious sound. One cut after the next in a nonstop action set.
We dipped in Chocolate City first. Then it was off to the vanilla suburbs,The State Theater,Falls Church,VA.After copping our tickets my brother and I were walking back to the parking lot ,and I was like,"Where is my boy G?"Then he and Chuck appeared walking towards the backdoor. We greeted each other and had a jovial bump of chests. It smelled like it was time for 4:20 to hit.

The Clinton that did Inhale
Last Thursday night, over 500 people gathered for a sold-out funk festival at the Haunt, put on by Parliament-Funkadelic off-shoots DRUGS, Kidd Funkadelic, and 420 FM with special guest George Clinton. Throughout the night, concert-goers packed shoulder to shoulder and shook the small, hot, upstate-backward space of the Haunt as they got down to each of the three conglomerate bands' slightly different take on the classic P-Funk style.......

420 Funk Mob at Tramps
The 420 Funk Mob is exactly what I have been looking for in a P Funk Show. I love the All Stars don't get me wrong, but 420 played the songs that I have been waiting to hear for quite sometime. They actually played songs that I thought I may never hear in concert. Kicking off the show with Clone Communicado and then going into
