My original name is Garshar aka Songbird, and I'm a Neo-Soul/Contemporary/R & B/Gospel artist, coming straight from the church house. Was given tha name Songbird in high school, because I was quiet and people found out I could sing so it became a nickname, and for some reason my name was hard to remember. I was always called, "Hey, girl". I grew up in D-Town (Dallas, TX.), and I love all kinds of music, except Heavy metal or when someones screaming to music, because screaming to me, is not real music or singing. I've been a singer since I can remember and grew up on gospel, 80's rock and contemporary, and soul music, and I never really began to come into who I was and wanted to be, until I was 15, when I started writing and singing my own style and flavor, and have also written about 200 to 300 songs. I have major love 4 real original and unique music that touches people. Who have inspired me are artists like: God (the most creative artist ever), my mother Patricia(RIP), Dinah Washington, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, Lauryn Hill, Norah Jones, India.Arie, Emily King, Mariah Carey, Sara Bareilles, The Roots, Bob Marley, BoyslikeGirls, The Police, Hughie Lewis and tha News, Robin Thicke, Minnie Riperton, Flyleaf, Marie' Digby, Cindi Lauper, Michelle Williams, Kirk Franklin, Fergie, Chrisette Michele, Musiq that Soulchild, Faith Hill, Leanne Rhymes, and my boys out of D-town, Sammy aka Hampton and Deon(from our duet Satisfaction). My resume includes opening up for, singing for, and with artist such as: Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, Vickie Winans, The Disciples of Creation, gospel singer, Josh Harrel, and( new upcoming artists)Sammy aka Hampton, and Deon. Currently, I'm in a play called, "Lord, Please Don't Pass Me By", by Hazel Baker. So look for me on this acting thing, also. I pray to someday produce and own my own record company to give other struggling artists, like me, a chance to pursue and live their creativity.
