Black Sabbath Debut “Methademic” In Australia

It was only a week ago that Black Sabbath released the studio version of “God Is Dead?,” and already more new material has found its way online.

While performing in Melbourne, Australia recently, the men of Black Sabbath debuted a new song entitled, “Methademic.” The song is in a similar vein to “God Is Dead?,” with brooding metal pairing with Ozzy‘s atmospheric drone. The quality of the fan recorded footage is not top shelf, but the audio is good enough for sampling. Click below to view the performance.

13 arrives in stores June 11. Continue reading ‘Black Sabbath Debut “Methademic” In Australia’

Lights Streams Acoustic Album

Canadian songstress Lights has released a full stream of her new album, Siberia Acoustic.

Posted to the CBC’s official website, Siberia Acoustic is not exactly the new music fans have been pining for, but it’s a worthwhile listening experience nonetheless. Her angelic voice pairs well with the stripped down sound, and it’s a nice departure from the electronica soaked indie pop she’s known for turning out. If you would like to give it a spin, click here.

Lights has reportedly been working on another full album, but until music appears we’re not holding our breath.

Metallica’s 3D Movie Is Going To Be Larger Than Life (Literally)

Legendary metal act Metallica have revealed information regarding the release of their upcoming 3D film.

Scheduled for an October 4 release this year, Metallica Through the Never is now headed for an IMAX release a week early. A post on the band’s official website reads, “Starting September 27, 2013 our movie will be shown exclusively on EVERY single screen in EVERY single IMAX theatre in North America for a full week. That’s over 300 theatres that we’ll be unleashing Through The Never to… an IMAX first! There really is no better way than this to experience film and promises to amount to an unprecedented and very unique visit to the movies.”

Starring Metallica, a cast of thousands of their fans, and breakout star Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Metallica Through the Never is written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Nimród Antal (Predators, Kontroll) and produced by former IMAX film producer Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth). The film marries groundbreaking footage and editing techniques with a compelling narrative, in which a band crew member (played by DeHaan) is sent out on a mission during Metallica’s roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena. While on this mission, he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down.

A trailer should be available soon. Comment and let us know if this is one feature you plan to see this Fall.

Limp Bizkit Cover Rage Against The Machine

Limp Bizkit have been ramping up promotional efforts in anticipation of releasing a new album later in the year. Recently, the group broke their long-standing US touring silence and already the group’s live show is sparking discussion and outcry.

While performing in Ft. Lauderdale on April 25, Fred Durst and crew debuted a cover of Rage Against The Machine‘s “Killing In The Name.” LB did not perform the full song, but the most notable moments were of course used to spur on an already wild crowd. You can view fan captured footage of the cover at the end of this post.

Whether or not a new Limp Bizkit album actually surfaces in 2013 is anyone’s guess, but those hoping to catch the band live will have plenty of chances throughout the year. Click here for tour dates. Continue reading ‘Limp Bizkit Cover Rage Against The Machine’

Chris Brown Premieres “I Can’t Win”

Chris Brown has released a stream of a new single entitled, “I Can’t Win.”

Taken from the pop star’s forthcoming July release, “I Can’t Win” is another high-gloss offering from Brown. The beat is drenched the synth and electronic sound effects, but once Brown comes in it’s all about the bass and snare. You can stream the song below.

X, the new album from Chris Brown, arrives in stores July 16. Continue reading ‘Chris Brown Premieres “I Can’t Win”’

Earl Sweatshirt Performs New Song Featuring RZA at MayFest 2013

Odd Future member Earl Sweatshirt has been building hype for his forthcoming album since November, and in recent weeks things have been hitting peak levels. Now video has surfaced online showing the young rapper debuting new material featuring a hip-hop legend, and we have the footage to share with you.

While performing at MayFest 2013 over the weekend, Earl Sweatshirt surprised audience members by debuting a new song featuring Wu-Tang member the RZA. The live cut featured RZA on the hook, but it’s hard to believe that he won’t have a full verse on Doris when it arrives in stores later this year. Click here to view the performance.

Unfortunately, Earl Sweatshirt has yet to give any indication of when Doris will arrive in stores. Our hope is before the end of summer, but it could really be anytime between now and whenever the lab monkeys break out and begin taking over the planet. Hopefully it happens before then, of course, and we’ll let you know as soon as a date is set. Continue reading ‘Earl Sweatshirt Performs New Song Featuring RZA at MayFest 2013′

Happy Birthday: iTunes Turns 10

Eleven years ago, if you wanted new music, you needed to stream it online (if you had a fast enough Internet connection), or blindly purchase new albums in stores and hope the full-length was as good as the single. Napster was a thing, as was bit torrent, but neither was as large a presence as they are now. The music industry knew it had to change before the illegal realm passed the commercial world, and so ten years ago yesterday (April 28) iTunes was born.

Opinions of the software and service continue to vary wildly, but there is no denying that iTunes is a prominent force in the music industry. Ten years after its launch, it continues to outpace the competition, even if some of the updates have been met with widespread criticism, and no app or product is currently poised to dethrone it anytime soon.

To celebrate iTunes hitting the decade mark, Apple put together highlights from the product’s life up to this point. Click here to check out their efforts.

The Wanted Debut “Walks Like Rihanna”

On Friday we reported on boy band The Wanted prepping a new single entitled “Walks Like Rihanna.” The response from fans and critics around the globe was deafening, with seemingly everyone crying foul even though no one had heard the actual song. Now the track has debuted at radio, and (in a way) appeared online, so I guess now is as good a time as any to figure out what, if anything, is good about a girl who “Walks Like Rihanna.”

First and foremost, groups like The Wanted are obviously not beloved by their fans because of their deep, emotionally moving material. Their target market is generally under the legal drinking age, and those kids want to dance and have a good time. “Walks Like Rihanna” is a track made with those desires in mind, and as such can be praised as a more or less fun song, with a beat made for club life. That said, trying to appeal to girls who feel ugly or those who lack confidence by saying they’re able to walk like someone famous has to be the strangest pickup line we have ever heard. The version available online, which you can stream below, is weak in overall quality but is enough to lead us to believe that this song will soon be tough to escape. Might as well give in now and click below to enjoy (or not) “Walks Like Rihanna.”

The Wanted will have a new album out at some point, but their label would prefer we mention that this single will be out sometime very soon. If you dig it, get it. If not, maybe boy bands are not you. Continue reading ‘The Wanted Debut “Walks Like Rihanna”’

The Summer Set Perform “Jukebox (Life Goes On)” Live

Making pop references in a song is one of the most overused ways to craft chart-topping hits these days. Artists seem to think pulling memorable bits from other people’s work will make listeners care about their work, but that usually could not be further from the truth. If you’re a musician I’ve never heard and you sample a song I love, I’m far more likely to start listening to that great band you reminded me to love than to seek out more of your otherwise unfamiliar sounds. That said, if music is supposed to come from the heart then referencing elements from your own pop culture orbit makes perfect sense, so there must be a way to insert this part of you into your art without looking silly, right?

Enter The Summer Set. Over the course of several releases, this Arizona outfit have crafted a unique brand of pop rock that captures the excitement of living in the moment, and they do it with a high-gloss radio appeal. They have already established a following and a direct link with fans of a certain age group (16-24), so when they lyrically reference pop hits, it only further cements how relatable the band is to their listeners. No track does that better than “Jukebox (Life Goes On).” It’s a timeless slice of life set to pop hits, and one that many identify with. A great video of the group performing the Legendary cut popped up on YouTube this weekend, and we could not help sharing it with you. Click below and enjoy.
