National Airlines have gained international recognition with their ’80s synth pop reminiscent of classic greats like Cyndi Lauper, Madonna and the B-52’s. This Australian three-piece band has been inspiring crowds to dance since 2008, and have played some of the biggest venues in their country, including the Ding Dong Lounge which has featured international acts such as The Silversun Pickups, The Ting Tings and Ratatat.
The lead singer, Dallas’ voice is almost an exact replica of B-52 Cindy Wilson’s trademark colorful, emphatic and high-pitched vibrato. The backing band, comprised of guitarist Slime and keyboardist Nifty, take the audience along for the time machine ride back to the ’80s. During their live show they look as if they’ve walked out of a John Hughes movie, complete with silver spandex, crimped hair, neon colored shirts and keytars.
Their new EP Sweet Life is full of sugary pop hits that dare the listener not to get up and dance. The National Airlines have brought together two different generations with their new take on classic ’80s electro-pop. Whether you’re a fan of current electro-pop or Simple Minds and Kenny Loggins were a staple at your high school prom, you’ll enjoy the feel-good songs National Airlines has to offer.
