Matchbox 20 announce Co-Headlining Tour With Goo Goo Dolls

This may very well be the biggest tour announcement we make all month, and I’m sure it will make #FreeTicketFriday crazier than it has been in recent weeks. For the first time ever, Matchbox 20 and Goo Goo Dolls will be embarking on a nationwide co-headlining tour.

You read that above paragraph right and no, it’s not 2002. Matchbox 20 have revealed they will be joined by Goo Goo Dolls as they watch the United States pass outside their busses on a Summer headlining run that is sure to go down in the history books. Both bands will be playing gigantic, hit-filled sets, and we encourage everyone within four hours of any venue to attend. You can view the full routing at the end of this post.

Bands rarely tour for the sake of touring, especially once they reach the level of popularity these bands have, and this tour will be no different. Goo Goo Dolls will be promoting their upcoming tenth album, Magnetic, which will drop on May, while Matchbox will be hoping the Summer fun helps push sales of their September 4, 2012 release, North.

Tickets go on sale this Saturday, March 23. Continue reading ‘Matchbox 20 announce Co-Headlining Tour With Goo Goo Dolls’

Warped Tour Searching for 2013 Artwork

We can never get enough Warped Tour news, and even in the fall and winter months when we’re pulling out the blankets and putting on the heat, Warped Tour is still hot on our minds.

That’s why we couldn’t resist sharing Warped Tour’s latest news with you. The tour is currently searching for artwork based on the theme “Best Day Ever” and must include the 2013 Vans Warped Tour logo.

So whip out those old school colored pencils and pastels and get to work! If you’re in need of some inspiration, check our more details and last year’s winning design here.

SoundTrax: Beachside Bonfires

In the age of the playlist, everyone has access to collections of songs hacked together due to arbitrary similarities. But what does that accomplish other than aid our forever shortening attention span, while making the idea of an “album” obsolete? SoundTrax is here to provide you with playlists that are more thought out, but still provide you with that instant gratification.

This week we’ve put together a soundtrack that will let you escape your daily grind, dig your toes into the sand, crack open a Corona, chat with friends and smell like a chimney for the next three days. Catchy choruses, funky rhythm sections and campy lyrics hightlight this playlist, so sit back and enjoy.

SoundTrax: Beachside Bonfires from OurStage on 8tracks.

OurStage band Bronze Radio Return kicks things off with their feel-good vibe, and when the whole band starts singing together during the hook you won’t be able to resist. Dispatch picks up where Bronze Radio Return leaves off and pushes the tempo just a bit, before The Kooks rattle our nerves with an infectious hook and incredible arrangement. Mumford & Sons are the epitome of campy, sing-a-long rock-n-roll, so how could we not include them in the power slot of this soundtrack? Get Back Loretta and Ivory Drive have totally different styles, but both manage to infuse a sense of funk and a breath of life into the second half of this playlist, sandwiching indie-dance-rockers Foster the People. Finally, Dave Matthews Band closes us out with a summer classic from ’96.

Download July Editor Picks For Free On Facebook

Despite what Florence and The Machine may say, the dog days aren’t over just yet.  In fact, they’re just beginning.  With the summer heat coming on in full force, it’s the perfect time for a new selection of July Editor Picks.  Roll down the windows and turn up this summery mix of indie pop, hard rock, hip hop and country.  Or, if you’re hiding inside and blasting the AC, put on some of the more chill, contemplative tracks.  Get over to the OurStage Facebook page to snag the mix for free download, or listen to it on 8tracks along with the past Editor Picks playlists.

Weapons of Audio “If You Want Me” – Big crunchy guitars and high falsetto vocals.  Imagine Bon Iver fronting Motley Crüe with a hell of a lot more sex appeal.

Sidney York “Dick & Jane” – Is it possible to create a perfect indie pop song without whistling, ukelele and lyrics about bicycling around town?  Not likely.

Chuck Elmore “Saying I Love You” – Elmore’s smooth vocals and slide guitar mix together the best parts of country, folk and pop.

David Costa “To Die For” – Building to a killer hook in the chorus (pun intended), this hip hop cut balances melody with angry, lovesick rhymes.

Jesse Thomas “You I Want” – Clear some nice, comfortable space in your head, because the chorus of “You I Want” is going to spend a lot of time in there.

Clarensau “I Would Trade (Grandpa’s Song)” – Tight male-female harmonies and a haunting cello line combine on this solemnly beautiful track.

Boys “Gossip” – A rollicking sonic romp complete with crunching guitars, vocal acrobatics and a spot-on use of snapping percussion.

Joanna Erdos & The Midnight Show “Sexy Secrets” – If Regina Spektor and Amanda Palmer had a kid (I’ll leave the “how” out of this) it would undoubtedly be Joanna Erdos.

Tour De Force: Summer Tours Galore

Well it’s finally here. The temperature is currently 90 degrees in Boston and summer is HERE. Along with days at the beach, barbeques and bikinis, summer is full of awesome shows. The question is which ones to go to? There are just so many options that going to all the shows you’d like to see can put quite a strain on your wallet. But never fear. We’ve put together a list of some of the best artists and festivals you don’t want to miss live!

The Big Names

If there is one artist you should be willing to spend a little cash on this summer, it is Lady Gaga. It doesn’t matter if you’re a 80-year-old man who has never even heard “Poker Face” or “Bad Romance,” her show is guaranteed to shock and awe. Gaga is known for her theatricality, over-the-top antics and her extremely devoted fan base of little monsters, all of which add up to equal a great performance for sure. With tour dates booked through April 2011 tickets are a quite the commodity so get ‘em while they’re hot!

If Lady Gaga isn’t exactly your cup ‘o tea then perhaps John Mayer will be right up your alley. The man definitely knows how to put on a show and is sure to woo everyone with his charming good looks and killer guitar skills. There are few people in this world that can stand alone on a stage in front of thousands of people and make them listen simply by playing a guitar. The production on his winter tour was excellent, complete with an awesome light show and video, and it sure to even better on the upcoming tour. Check out the dates here.

Bieber Fever. Enough said. This little guy has taken the world by storm, collaborating with artists such as Usher, Ludacris and Sean Kingston. He truly is 2010′s tweenage heartthrob sensation. I feel that at some point in every young girl’s life they should get to go see their teenage idol (I will never forget the ’97 N*Sync concert I went to). Plus I’ve seen Bieber’s dance moves. Pretty impressive. So parents, grandparents, 18-year-olds brave enough to admit they like Justin Bieber, get your tix now.

iROCK: Backyard BBQ

The birds are chirping, the sun is shining, the flowers are blooming… yep you guessed it, SUMMER is here! Almost. OK, maybe I’ve just  missed the beautiful weather, kids playing in the streets and the sweet sweet smell of the grill too long. But now that the sun is out, I’m thinking ahead. Some of you may know this and some of you may not, but OurStage is running the “Converse Battle Of The Band’s” Channel contest to find supporting acts to perform with Mayday Parade and Anberlin on the Journey’s Backyard BBQ Tour stop here in Boston, MA. So, in the spirit of summer, BBQ and awesome rock music, I’ve put together a playlist of some bands that I think would do very well in the competition and sound great opening for the aforementioned headliners. Within the playlist you’ll find: The Sunstreak, Darling Parade, THESKYLIFE, Thirteen Yards To Victory, The Product, and The Lost Colors. If you know any bands that could fit the bill and are from the Boston area then tell them to get their music up on OurStage and compete in the Converse Channel for their chance to share the stage with pop rockers Mayday Parade and Anberlin!

Enjoy iROCKERS!

SHOWS, SHOWS, SHOWS: SUMMER TOUR SEASON IS HERE!

No Doubt

No Doubt

As live performances become more crucial to the revenue stream of the full time musician, more acts—old and new—are going on tour this summer. And you can bet your bottom dollar that this summer’s tour season is chockfull of great musical acts to blow your hard-earned recession pennies on. Sugar Ray is gearing up to tour in support of their first new album in six years. Nineties radio staples like No Doubt and Blink-182 are headlining reunion tours. If Blink-182 getting back together isn’t enough to satisfy your penchant for pop punk power chords, Green Day will be hitting the road this summer as well.

Eighties powerhouses Blondie and Pat Benatar are joining forces to co-headline a U.S. tour — with the all-girl punk rock band The Donnas as the opening act, it’s sure to be a quality girls night out for those of you lucky enough to score tickets.

Phish's Trey Anastasio

Phish's Trey Anastasio

Quintessential live favorites such as Dave Matthews Band, AC/DC, Jimmy Buffet, The Black Crowes, Wilco and Phish are all on the road again much to the delight of their hardcore fans.

There are also plenty of up-and-coming acts and college radio artists playing shows that you can enjoy without taking out a second mortgage on your home. For Wolf Parade fans, frontman Spencer Krug’s other band — Sunset Rubdown — will be kicking off a U.S. tour in June. Still smarting because you didn’t get Animal Collective tickets? Sunset Rubdown’s Jagjaguwar labelmates, Pterodactyl, will be crisscrossing the country to console you. On the local scene, Boston’s soon-to-be superstar electro-pop outfit, Passion Pit, will be touring in support of their much anticipated LP, Manners. And finally, OurStage’s New York power pop rockers, Blameshift, are playing shows you need to check out before it’s time to go back to school.

SUMMER BLUES PLAYLIST

Traditionally, summer implies a feeling of bliss and a time to relax, but it can go by so quickly. Do you ever have that feeling when you’re having such a good time that you just want to put things in slow motion, take a step back and relish the moment? I call it the Dawson’s Creek moment. Every teen show has it; the slow motion, happy montage that wraps up the season.

Now, when your lying on the beach or driving in your car with the windows down catching that warm scent of freshly cut grass and the summer blues wash over you, OurStage will be right by your side with this perfect soundtrack.
