Last month Ernie Ball sponsored our Punk Channel, offering a year’s supply of strings and accessories to one Grand Prize Winner. So without further adieu, it is our pleasure to congratulate the winning musician, Kingnaldo with his song “I’m Mad As Hell”.  Hailing from Dallas, Ga., this Puerto Rican solo artist has years of experience writing and performing within various genres including punk, metal, hard, and alternative rock. He recently recorded at Lavish Studios in Los Angeles, Calif. with producer/musician Doug Grean (Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, Sheryl Crow). Now Kingnaldo can rock out harder than ever and not worry about breaking a string, because OurStage and Ernie Ball got him covered. Check out his winning song “I’m Mad As Hell” below.

November marked another great month for the “Tr3s Latin Music Channel” here on OurStage. After another thirty days of hard fought competition, the OurStage fans and Tr3s judges alike  selected another lucky artist to don the El Headliner crown for the entire month of December. Meet Galante “El Emperador”, a Puerto Rican pop-reggaeton master ready to take the world by storm.

Ready to join the ranks of the numerous talents featured as El Headliner, Galante is proving himself a force to be reckoned with in the rising Latin music world. His winning track “A Lo Prohibido” climbed to the November Top 40 with ease and is sure to please your ears. Keep an ear to the ground for our recap of his exclusive features later in the month.

What could be better than one Puerto Rican artist who mixes Latin sounds with urban music?

The answer is simple: TWO Puerto Rican artists.

We are talking about Domino Saints, a pop duo from San Juan, Puerto Rico who happen to rock OurStage’s Latin Channel, and whose style is a fusion of dancehall, bomba, reggae and other Latin grooves. Just ask OurStage Latin fans and you’ll understand why the pair’s rock star vibe is hard to resist.

It’s no surprise that Domino Saints has been in the top ten charts several times—they’ve been collecting successes since the release of their self-titled debut album in late 2009. That year, they were featured as the Latin iTunes Single of the Week and were chosen as winners in the 16th Billboard World Song Contest with their smash hit “Buenos Dias San Juan.” A year later, they worked on a second album that turned out to be more even more popular. Their smash hit “Ahora es Ahora” won them an Independent Music Award for “Best Latin Song.”

You guessed C, right? Latin music will always advocate for partying as a remedy to even the most complicated of all problems. And this is actually what artist Alexandra Villar invites us to do with her song “De Fiesta”, one of our favorite Latin tracks in the last few months.

OurStage artist Alexandra Villar has many reasons to be in the mood to party.  “De Fiesta” has landed in the Top 10 Latin charts several times, and is a favorite among OurStage fans.

Alexandra’s unique talent combines different musical influences from Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the US. In her OurStage profile, she describes herself as an “artist of fusions” and explains that her music is an expression of the “new woman, one that is accompanied by her lifelong dream.”

If you know a little bit about Alexandra’s background, you will understand why music has always been her dream. She was the lead vocalist and guitarist of the group Lapizlázuli for over six years, and then finally released her first solo album Sentir under the independent label Ítoko Records.

Through her songs, Alexandra aims to motivate listeners to be optimistic even in the most adverse circumstances. Like “De Fiesta”, some of her other songs portray the ambivalence of feeling low while staying positive and hopeful.

That’s when the Billboard Latin Music Awards will be broadcast live via Telemundo from San Juan, Puerto Rico. This is the first time in the event’s 20+ year history that it won’t take place in Miami which is a huge deal for Latin musicians, Puerto Rico’s tourism and fans of the Telemundo staple all over the world. Telemundo president Don Brown says, “It’s a win, win, win situation. The Billboard Latin Music Awards are our premiere event. And we’re coming home to Puerto Rico. Talk to the Mano: Domino Saints

If Domino Saints prove anything, it’s that a lot of sound can come from just a few people. The duo, comprised of singer Giselle Ojeda and percussionist David Leal, infuse their dance music with contemporary trends and vintage textures that span several cultures. Nothing is off limits in this melting pot. Expect anything from time-honored Latin traditions like bomba and plena to island music like reggae and dancehall, old school funk and soul and new school reggaeton.

Domino Saints’ Puerto Rican heritage is never more apparent than in their single, “Buenos Dias San Juan,” which won a Billboard World Songwriting Contest award and was featured as an iTunes single of the week. The song opens with guitars that nod to Isaac Hayes’ “Shaft” and a burping horn section that leads into a raw bomba groove. Sung in Spanish, the lyrics may be obscured to Gringos, but the message comes through loud and clear—standing still is not an option. On the subversive, darker funk track “Machiavelic,” Ojeda sings, “I’ve got a plan to take over the world / I’m gonna do it with music.” Let’s hope Domino Saints follow though on the threat.

Domino Saints, a duo with roots in the US and Puerto Rico, have charted in the top ten on OurStage in both the Latin and Reggae Channels. Now, they are taking their success global, literally. They are one of three winners in the Latin category in Billboard Magazine’s World Song Contest for their song, “Buenos Dias San Juan.”

This big win is taking them to Puerto Rico where they will perform at the Puerto Rico Music Business Conference Showcase on March 6th. If anybody is lucky enough to head south, escape the cold and wants to fill their ears with great music, don’t forget to check out the Domino Saints while you’re there!
