One Direction Unveil 3D Film Title

We have been talking about the reign of One Direction a lot in recent weeks, and to be honest it seems there may be no end in sight. Not only are the boys currently working on their third album in two years, but they also have a new 3D film heading to theater that is sure to take fandom to an all new level.

This morning, the gents from One Direction played a Twitter reveal game with fans to have them unlock the title to the group’s upcoming film. After a few quick hours (and a handful of trending topics), it was revealed that the flick we know as 1D3D will now be called This Is Us. It’s a fitting title, I suppose, but definitely not one that pops. You can view the trailer for This Is Us below. Continue reading ‘One Direction Unveil 3D Film Title’

One Direction Reportedly Working On New Music

Being a boy band must be tough these days. Not only do you need to sing and dance at the same time while thousands of girls scream your name, but you also have to find new ways to stay relevant in a time where nothing seems to stay popular for longer than a few weeks (if that).

Of all those attempting to win that war of trending topics, no group of clean-cut gents did it better in 2012 than One Direction. They toured the world, spent time interacting with fans every chance they could, and along the way found time to record and release two full length albums (not to mention filming their forthcoming 3D movie). Now it seems the boys in 1D are at it again, as Take Me Home producer Julian Bunetta has told MTV he was back in the studio with the group within the last month. Black Veil Brides Featured On ‘Now That’s What I Call Music 45′

Everyone’s favorite radio friendly compilation is back, and in a surprising twist of events the makers of Now That’s What I Call Music have featured Black Veil Brides‘ ”In The End” on their 45th installment. Appearing as a “Now What’s Next” bonus track, Black Veil Brides finds a home among other bonus artists, Born Cages, Walk The Moon, and Capital Cities.

Although it’s a shocker to see the band included on a track list that also features acts like Taylor Swift, Ke$ha, One Direction, and Ne-Yo, it’s refreshing to see Now That’s What I Call Music delving a bit more into the unknown. At least, the unknown of many regular Now listeners.

Check out the full track list after the jump, and keep an eye out for our upcoming interview with Black Veil Brides by following us on Twitter!

8 Do’s and Don’ts Of Making Your First Video

So you’ve spent hours in the studio tracking your epic debut concept double album. Now what? If you’re thinking of making your first music video as the next step in your career, don’t get all flustered yet. You don’t have to be OK Go to make an awesome budget-friendly video but you do need some good ideas, a healthy amount of pre-planning, and some serious dedication. With that in mind, here are a few things to strive for and to avoid when shooting your first silver screen masterpiece.

Do: Stage a live performance

The live performance video is a classic for a reason. It’s simple, easy to set up, and doesn’t require your awkward bassist to pretend that he knows how to act. Perfect. Just remember to have adequate lighting – even workman’s halogen lights will do – and a tripod so that you can capture at least one full steady take of the band in addition to your cameraman’s love of zoom-in close-ups. Just remember to synchronize your playing with what’s actually happening in the song. You don’t want to look like this:

The 2013 People’s Choice Awards Results

The people have spoken. The 2013 People’s Choice Awards were held yesterday at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, CA and the results don’t seem to surprise many. Katy Perry walked away with four awards, including Favorite Female Artist as well as Music Video, Favorite Pop Artist, and Favorite Fan Following – referring of course to the KatyCats.

Other notable award recipients include One Direction who was awarded Favorite Album and Favorite Song, Jason Mraz who was awarded Favorite Male Artist, and Taylor Swift who was awarded Favorite Country Artist.

Performances throughout the night featured Jason Aldean who belted “My Kind of Party” and R&B favorite Alicia Keys, who sang “Girl on Fire,” as well as “New Day.” Christina Aguilera also performed her ballad “Blank Page” and did so in style, dressed in white and surrounded by candlelight. Perhaps the most entertaining performance of the show was The Wanted‘s acceptance speech, wherein the members broke into an a cappella of “Afternoon Delight.”

All the winners are can be viewed after the jump.

Like Fan Like Band: How Fanbase Can Affect Artist Reputation

How many times have you written off a band or an artist because of their fans? I’m sure many of us are either unwilling to admit it or simply have not realized this subconscious process of ruling out, but it happens all the time.

Regardless of the quality of the music, it is very easy for potential new listeners to be deterred because of the reputation created by a band’s fanbase. For example, what comes to mind when I mention the name Slipknot? For many of you—especially those who are not very familiar with them—my guess is that you thought of the types of people you might associate with that band; mean, dumb, meathead psychos (Sorry, Maggots. No offense!). However, while this may be true for some of their fans, this doesn’t mean you should curse the band all together. The problem is that too many people apply this stigma to the band, assuming the music is unsophisticated, dumb, mindless, or perhaps untalented. However, those who are familiar with and open to the idea of Slipknot, fan or not, know that they are a very hardworking group of extremely talented musicians. It might not be your cup of tea, but at least give them that.

Okay, so maybe the guys in Slipknot bring it upon themselves with their terrifying masks and generally offensive demeanor, but how about Tool? They have a similar demographic as Slipknot, but many listeners might find their sound to be a little “easier to swallow.” However, they often get lumped in with the same sort of crowd that makes outsiders assume the music is terrible, while in fact, tool has written some of the most interesting, progressive, and influential songs in nu metal.

Too often do people overlook a band just because of the fanbase they seem to attract. Of course, that’s not totally unreasonable. If you do not like or do not relate to a certain type of person, and that type of person likes a certain type of music, then by the transitive property, it seems safe to assume that you will probably dislike that type of music too. However, this isn’t always the case. We all have “guilty pleasures,” but why are they guilty? Because we’re embarrassed to admit when we like something outside of our own self-ascribed reputation? Are we that proud of our “taste?” Continue reading ‘Like Fan Like Band: How Fanbase Can Affect Artist Reputation’

Ke$ha Releases Video For “Die Young”

If you’re a conspiracy theorist, you’re going to find a lot to like in Ke$ha’s new video for “Die Young.” Inverted crosses and satanic pentagrams flash repeatedly in blatant, seizure-inducing patterns, while upside-down triangles appear superimposed over almost every single shot, splicing up the frames into disjointed tesselations. There’s definitely enough imagery present to incite rabid online discussions of secret Illuminati plots to take over the world, but like most of those theories, such arguments seem to miss the mark. What’s really going on in with the proliferation of these kind of inscrutable symbols in Ke$ha’s new video is a lot less sinister, but not any less devious.
