French Montana Releases “State Of Mind” Video

Just under a week from the release of his major label debut, French Montana has dropped the official video for “State Of Mind.”

This is the first time in all my years of journalism that I have seen a major label artist release a video for a song NOT on his new album in the days just before said album hits stores. “State Of Mind” appeared on November 2012′s Mac And Cheese 3 mixtape, and while we still love its Harry Fraud produced beat, it seems like poor timing marketing wise for a guy who is trying to sell a couple thousand records in the next week and still hasn’t had a top ten single in almost a year. One could argue it’s just too good to leave alone, I guess, and that people may grab the free track as a gateway to later buying the album. I think that’s a stretch personally, but it could be said.

You can watch the video for “State Of Mind” at the end of this post. It will not appear on Excuse My French, but over a dozen new songs will. If you dig this, why not give the album a chance? Comment below and let us know your thoughts. Continue reading ‘French Montana Releases “State Of Mind” Video’

Mariah Carey Releases “#Beautiful” Video

Diva Mariah Carey has released the official music video for her Miguel assisted single, “#Beautiful.”

A sonically different, but altogether fitting addition to her singles catalog, “#Beautiful” continues to be an a-okay song with a perfectly acceptable video. At this point in her career there is very little mystery to the formula for Carey’s video. and that isn’t necessarily a complaint. Mariah appears, looking glorious as ever, and everything that follows is in some way a sequence designed to showcase her physical (and vocal) assets as much as digitally possible. Whether or not it sells the song is anyone’s guess, but why fix what isn’t broken, right? Click below and enjoy “#Beautiful.” Continue reading ‘Mariah Carey Releases “#Beautiful” Video’

Lana Del Rey Debuts “Young & Beautiful” Video

With The Great Gatsby bringing in over $50million at the box office this weekend, it doesn’t take a genius to realize the soundtrack isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. We know not everyone can sneak away during a weekday to catch a movie, so today we suggest letting the video for Lana Del Rey‘s soundtrack contribution “Young & Beautiful” entertain you instead.

Thematically perfect for the themes of longing, fear, and love that run rampant throughout Gasby, “Young & Beautiful” is as fitting for the latest film adaptation as it is Del Rey’s personal catalog. Her near-whisper croon matching soothing orchestral instrumentation and thunderous percussion with lines filled with questions about what happens when young loves begins to age. The visuals match the emotional intensity of the song, but the most notable imagery is without a doubt two glittery tears placed on Del Rey’s cheek. You can view the clip below.

The soundtrack for The Great Gatsby is in stores now and expected to top the Billboard charts. If you enjoy this song, give the album a spin. Continue reading ‘Lana Del Rey Debuts “Young & Beautiful” Video’

Pusha T Drops “Numbers On The Board” Video

G.O.O.D. Music member Pusha T has released the visuals to his Kanye West produced single, “Numbers On The Board.”

Backed by one of the most discussed beats of the year, Pusha T goes in on “Numbers On The Board.” His cockiness is nothing new, nor his incredible lyrical skills, but starting with the unique production there is something about this track that sticks to you. Even if you find the music element grating in some way, Pusha’s bars stick to you like glue. Click below to see (and hear) what I mean.

Pusha T is finally going to release his first official solo album later this year. Stay tuned for details. Continue reading ‘Pusha T Drops “Numbers On The Board” Video’

Frank Turner Debuts “The Way I Tend To Be” Video

English folk singer Frank Turner has released the official video for his latest single, “The Way I Tend To Be.”

Some people cannot help digging themselves a hole in life. More times than not, these same people climb out of those holes only to find themselves in another in no time at all. The idea is the central theme for “The Way I Tend To Be,” with Turner digging holes in the countryside while singing of how his choices actions have impacted his life and the lives of those near him. It’s a gorgeous a video and a wonderful track. Click below to view the video.

The Wanted Release “Walks Like Rihanna” Video

We have been discussing our confusion over The Wanted‘s new single, “Walks Like Rihanna,” for nearly two weeks. While the song is built on the same structure of every other pop hit, its lyrics and delivery lacked a sense of tongue-in-cheek/silliness that would make writing a song about something as silly as a girl’s ability to walk like another female acceptable. Now the guys are back with the official video, and though they seem to realize we think it’s a joke, it may be too little too late.

Almost every boy band reaches a point where they release a music video about music videos. By this I mean that the concept of the clip is the group, whoever they may be, trying out a bunch of ideas (often ridiculous) instead of creating a straightforward narrative. “Walks Like Rihanna” is that video for The Wanted, and their idea for a ‘video about videos’ is to spoof famous boy band clips. Backstreet Boys, *Nsync, you name it and there is a chance there is a reference in this clip. That may seem humorous, and at points it is, but overall the lighthearted video doesn’t gel with the more direct delivery of the lines in the actual song. Deftones Release “Swerve City” Music Video

California rock outfit Deftones have release a music video for their latest single, “Swerve City.”

The visuals for “Swerve City” are 90% shots of a beautiful woman roaming desert landscapes on horseback. I know the idea of a girl riding a horse through the desert may not sound like an interesting concept for a music video, but today that opinion will likely change. As the story unfolds it becomes clear she has secrets, and before the clip ends you begin to unravel the mystery behind why such a woman would be in such a hot, dry place.

Deftones are scheduled to go out on an international tour starting May 11. Click here for dates and ticket information. Continue reading ‘Deftones Release “Swerve City” Music Video’

David Bowie Debuts “The Next Day” Video

Music icon David Bowie has released the official video for his latest single, “The Next Day.”

Originally removed from YouTube based on a ‘misunderstanding,’ the latest visuals from Bowie are as cinematic as you have come to expect from the man who gave us Ziggy Stardust. Bowie is seen as a quasi-christ in the clip, with Gary Oldman as a priest and Marion Cotillard as a troubled girl with “holy” hands. We’ll let Bowie tell you the story himself, but don’t be surprised if some people start crying foul in the days ahead. You can view the video below.

David Bowie has never been one to apologize for expressing himself, so any angst one feels after viewing this video might as well be forgotten. Bowie is about art, and this is easily the most artistic thing we’ve seen in the last month. Comment and let us know if you agree. Continue reading ‘David Bowie Debuts “The Next Day” Video’
