Metallica’s 3D Movie Is Going To Be Larger Than Life (Literally)

Legendary metal act Metallica have revealed information regarding the release of their upcoming 3D film.

Scheduled for an October 4 release this year, Metallica Through the Never is now headed for an IMAX release a week early. A post on the band’s official website reads, “Starting September 27, 2013 our movie will be shown exclusively on EVERY single screen in EVERY single IMAX theatre in North America for a full week. That’s over 300 theatres that we’ll be unleashing Through The Never to… an IMAX first! There really is no better way than this to experience film and promises to amount to an unprecedented and very unique visit to the movies.”

Starring Metallica, a cast of thousands of their fans, and breakout star Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Metallica Through the Never is written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Nimród Antal (Predators, Kontroll) and produced by former IMAX film producer Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth). The film marries groundbreaking footage and editing techniques with a compelling narrative, in which a band crew member (played by DeHaan) is sent out on a mission during Metallica’s roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena. While on this mission, he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down.

A trailer should be available soon. Comment and let us know if this is one feature you plan to see this Fall.

One Direction Unveil 3D Film Title

We have been talking about the reign of One Direction a lot in recent weeks, and to be honest it seems there may be no end in sight. Not only are the boys currently working on their third album in two years, but they also have a new 3D film heading to theater that is sure to take fandom to an all new level.

This morning, the gents from One Direction played a Twitter reveal game with fans to have them unlock the title to the group’s upcoming film. After a few quick hours (and a handful of trending topics), it was revealed that the flick we know as 1D3D will now be called This Is Us. It’s a fitting title, I suppose, but definitely not one that pops. You can view the trailer for This Is Us below. Continue reading ‘One Direction Unveil 3D Film Title’

New Music Documentaries On Napster, The Beatles To Premiere At SXSW 2013

This Year’s South By Southwest Festival will see the premiere of several notable music documentaries, with themes ranging from the digital download revolution to a little-known secretary for The Beatles. The new documentary Downloaded tracks the precipitous rise and fall of Napster and the whiz kids behind it: Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker. Fun fact: it’s directed by Alex Winter. Don’t know the name? Well, surely you know Bill S. Preston, esquire. Yep, that’s right. The new documentary film is directed by Keanu Reeves’ co-star in the famous Bill and Ted movies. Though it might come as a surprise, Winter made the jump to directing in 1993 with the comedy sci-fi flick Freaked. Excellent.

Another SXSW premiere this year is Good ‘Ol Freda, which tells the almost entirely unacknowledged life story of Freda Kelly, the president of the Beatles Fan Club, and the band’s “secretary” for 11 years. Kelly became close to the band during their early days as an up-and-coming Liverpool act and stayed loyal to the band during their rise to fame and subsequent breakup. The film depicts how, “as the Beatles’ devoted secretary and friend, Freda was there as history unfolded; she was witness to the evolution – advances and setbacks, breakthroughs and challenges – of the greatest band in history.” Even more reason to get excited for SXSW 2013.

Coheed & Cambria Frontman’s Comics To Be Made Into Movie

Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson, producers of “Boardwalk Empire” and “Entourage,” have obtained the rights to the graphic novel series The Amory Wars by Claudio Sanchez, singer, guitarist, and mastermind of the prog-rock concept band Coheed & Cambria. According to Variety.com, the team will be turning the futuristic sci-fi fantasy saga into a live-action feature film.

Sanchez’s comics are an ongoing series about a family in an alternate universe and their battle to end the reign of Wilhelm Ryan, a superhuman dictator with ruthless power. These comics were originally written to accompany the parallel on-going story of Coheed & Cambria’s concept albums, but have clearly developed into much more. They have garnered attention and respect from Comic-Con fans and famous comic book writers such as Peter David (The Incredible Hulk, Aquaman), who penned 2010′s The Year of the Black Rainbow, an origin story to accompany the band’s fifth full-length album with the same name.

Whether or not Sanchez or his band are to be involved with the scoring of the film has yet to be announced, but one can only assume that there must be some talk of this involvement, considering the albums and the graphic novels are practically one in the same.

Coheed and Cambria have a new album coming out this fall and a North American tour with Iron Maiden starting on July 24th.

Completely ‘Satchurated’

Hell yes! Joe Satriani has come out with his first 3D theatrical concert film movie entitled – yep, you guessed it - Satchurated. By the way, how badass is that name? Filmed in Montreal, Canada during  2010′s Wormhole Tour, this movie is finally making it to the big screen! Unfortunately, that big screen is in Australia and only for one night: Wednesday, March 7th. But don’t be too sad, it’ll be in stores soon…

Directed by GRAMMY and EMMY award-winning filmmakers Pierre & Francois Lamoureux and produced by Cinemusica & Fogolabs, this movie is jam-packed full of the latest audio and video production standards – ten 2D and 3D cameras with 7.1 Dolby Digital sound. Confirmed: Fred Durst Is A Douchebag

He did it all for the nookie.

We all know Fred Durst is a man of (…ahem) many talents. From red Yankees fitted hats to Celtics jerseys and everything in between, the Limp Bizkit frontman has done it all. Or so we thought. It seems that the man has much more up his sleeve than we give him credit for.

It’s been announced that the renaissance man has successfully negotiated with CBS and CBS TV Studios to have his very own sitcom (temporarily referred to as “Douchebag”) in which he will explore and expose the high-profile lifestyle of a rock star trying to balance his stardom with his family life. Durst is to act as both the star and the producer of the show, and is currently working on a script to be reviewed by the network.

This isn’t Durst’s first venture into the world of motion picture. During his very profitable career with Limp Bizkit during the late 1990s early 2000s (in which they sold over 30 million albums), he tried his skills as a director for many of his band’s own music videos as well as vids for contemporaries such as KoRn and Staind. During the Limp Bizkit hiatus, he directed two relatively successful full-length films: The Education of Charlie Banks starring Jesse Eisenberg and The Longshots featuring Ice Cube. As an actor, though, his appearances have been limited to short cameos in a few films and shows. He’s never had a role in which he was able to showcase his acting skills, but it seems as if this doesn’t matter to the execs at CBS.

Do they see something in him that millions of others do not? Or is this another case of a major network attempting to bank on an artist’s celebrity status, regardless of what he brings to the table? Does Fred Durst have “celebrity status”? Let’s hope the show actually airs soon so we can see how much of a “Douchebag” he really is. Or isn’t. Or is.
