Keith Moon Biopic A ‘GO’

Considering Hollywood’s near-total reliance on familiar properties (comic books, TV shows, movies that have already been made twice before coughhulkcough, etc.), it’s kind of shocking that a Keith Moon biopic has yet to be made.

Consider that problem solved. Hollywood Reporter, uh, reports that the film, long in the works, has received funding and is now in development. Not only that, but Moon’s The Who bandmate Roger Daltrey has been collaborating with producers on the project. He says, ”The Keith Moon project is one close to my heart so I am excited to reinvigorate it…”

So get pumped up on amphetamines and brandy for this one, although it might still never see the light of day and if it does it will likely be pretty bad, but…still?

Metallica Release Live “Master Of Puppets” Single From New Film

Metal legends Metallica have released a live cut of the classic “Master Of Puppets” taken from their upcoming 3D film, Through The Never.

Surfacing online just two weeks after the trailer premiere for Through The Never, the performance of “Master Of Puppets” offers fans their first true taste of Metallica’s first theatrical effort. The film combines concert footage, some of which is shown in the clip, with a plot about young boy trying to make it to the venue in the midst of a massive riot. We knew the performance would be larger-than-life, but we had no idea just how epic things would get until this performance rolled through HQ this afternoon. You can stream the clip on Rolling Stone.

Through The Never opens in IMAX 3D at the end of September, then expands to regular screens nationwide in early October. We’ll be in attendance opening night. Will you?

Theatrical Screening Locations Announced For ‘Morrissey: 25 Live’

Just weeks aft the original teaser surfaced online, theatrical screening locations have been revealed for Morissey: 25 Live.

Scheduled for an August 29 release, 25 Live is a celebration of Morrissey‘s 25 years as a solo artist. The film captures the singer’s March 2 performance at Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, and serves as the first official concert film for Moz since 2005′s Who Put The M In Manchester?

Eagle Rock Entertainment is planning an eventual home video release for 25 Live, but no details are available yet. You can view the full list of theaters, as well as the full trailer, at the end of post.

Between recent postponements and cancelations in the U.S. and abroad, this may be your best shot at seeing Morrissey in 2013.

First Trailer for TLC Biopic Released

Yesterday, the surviving members of TLC held a press conference in New York City to announce plans to release new material in conjunction with a new biopic later this year. Music was previewed for the press, but nothing was released to the public (yet). The movie, however, is another story.

Shortly after the morning press conference let out, VH1 released the first trailer for CrazySexyCool, which tells the story of TLC’s meteoric rise to fame and the tragedy that would eventually follow. You can view the preview below.

The actors cast for CrazySexyCool, including rapper Lil Mama as the fallen Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez, look like the spitting image of the popular trio. Do you agree? Comment below and let us know your thoughts on the new trailer. Continue reading ‘First Trailer for TLC Biopic Released’

Metallica’s 3D Movie Is Going To Be Larger Than Life (Literally)

Legendary metal act Metallica have revealed information regarding the release of their upcoming 3D film.

Scheduled for an October 4 release this year, Metallica Through the Never is now headed for an IMAX release a week early. A post on the band’s official website reads, “Starting September 27, 2013 our movie will be shown exclusively on EVERY single screen in EVERY single IMAX theatre in North America for a full week. That’s over 300 theatres that we’ll be unleashing Through The Never to… an IMAX first! There really is no better way than this to experience film and promises to amount to an unprecedented and very unique visit to the movies.”

Starring Metallica, a cast of thousands of their fans, and breakout star Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Metallica Through the Never is written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Nimród Antal (Predators, Kontroll) and produced by former IMAX film producer Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth). The film marries groundbreaking footage and editing techniques with a compelling narrative, in which a band crew member (played by DeHaan) is sent out on a mission during Metallica’s roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena. While on this mission, he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down.

A trailer should be available soon. Comment and let us know if this is one feature you plan to see this Fall.

One Direction Unveil 3D Film Title

We have been talking about the reign of One Direction a lot in recent weeks, and to be honest it seems there may be no end in sight. Not only are the boys currently working on their third album in two years, but they also have a new 3D film heading to theater that is sure to take fandom to an all new level.

This morning, the gents from One Direction played a Twitter reveal game with fans to have them unlock the title to the group’s upcoming film. After a few quick hours (and a handful of trending topics), it was revealed that the flick we know as 1D3D will now be called This Is Us. It’s a fitting title, I suppose, but definitely not one that pops. You can view the trailer for This Is Us below. Continue reading ‘One Direction Unveil 3D Film Title’

New Music Documentaries On Napster, The Beatles To Premiere At SXSW 2013

This Year’s South By Southwest Festival will see the premiere of several notable music documentaries, with themes ranging from the digital download revolution to a little-known secretary for The Beatles. The new documentary Downloaded tracks the precipitous rise and fall of Napster and the whiz kids behind it: Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker. Fun fact: it’s directed by Alex Winter. Don’t know the name? Well, surely you know Bill S. Preston, esquire. Yep, that’s right. The new documentary film is directed by Keanu Reeves’ co-star in the famous Bill and Ted movies. Though it might come as a surprise, Winter made the jump to directing in 1993 with the comedy sci-fi flick Freaked. Excellent.

Another SXSW premiere this year is Good ‘Ol Freda, which tells the almost entirely unacknowledged life story of Freda Kelly, the president of the Beatles Fan Club, and the band’s “secretary” for 11 years. Kelly became close to the band during their early days as an up-and-coming Liverpool act and stayed loyal to the band during their rise to fame and subsequent breakup. The film depicts how, “as the Beatles’ devoted secretary and friend, Freda was there as history unfolded; she was witness to the evolution – advances and setbacks, breakthroughs and challenges – of the greatest band in history.” Even more reason to get excited for SXSW 2013.

‘The Great Gatsby’ New Trailer Debut

Whenever a classic book gets a film adaptation there’s always that acute questioning of what will remain loyal to the book, and what will change. Although this isn’t the first time The Great Gatsby will hit the big screen, it’s already succumb to mass questioning by fans with the release of the second official trailer.

The new trailer gives us a deeper look at Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan) as well as Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton) and Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), flaunting the distinct style of director Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet). The trailer gives us a quick peek into a world filled with lavish parties, romance, and plenty of mystery and intrigue. But will it ring true to the book? Check out the trailer after the jump and let us know your thoughts. Will this be a hit or miss for fans of the book? Continue reading ‘‘The Great Gatsby’ New Trailer Debut’
