Meek Mill Unveils Book Plans

Maybach Music Group member Meek Mill has never been one to be short on words, and his latest effort proves that tenfold. After years behind the mic, Mill is taking his talents to the world of writing with the release of his first book, Tony’s Story.

Now, before you go an wonder if Tony is actually Meek, he’s not (not directly, at least). The story Mill has crafted for his book debut is one of life on the streets, and it seems clear from the description that it was inspired by the rapper’s own life. The official synopsis reads:

Tony and Ty had big dreams of getting rich. Although they grew up like brothers, once money and envy entered the equation, greed took over and loyalty went out the door.

After a deadly shooting, the streets of Philly were in an uproar and the lives of many people revolved around revenge. Continue reading ‘Meek Mill Unveils Book Plans’

Ace Hood Releases “Goin Down” Music Video

Ace Hood is back in our headlines today with the release of his official music video for “Goin Down.”

Taken from his Starvation 2 mixtape, “Goin Down” pairs Hood with Maybach Music Group heavyweight Meek Mill. The clip features the pair performing between expensive cars, with cuts to shots of night life and strippers added to keep things exciting. It’s typical urban video fare, but there is something here for nearly every genre fan. You can view the video for “Goin Down” below.

Drake and Chris Brown Trade Blows, Beaus

In Drake’s verse on the new 2 Chainz single  ”No Lie,” which quite apparently references his on-and-off relationship with Rihanna, he raps “She came through, she brought food, she got fucked, she knew wassup.” Essentially the same could be said about Chris Brown after he and Drake were allegedly involved in a fist fight about the Barbadian singer at an after-hours club in New York City late last night.

According to TMZ and Media Takeout, both artists found themselves in the same club, igniting past tensions over their shared romantic interest in Rhianna. This is where the story gets hazy. When Drake allegedly rejected a bottle of champagne that Brown sent to his table as a peaceful gesture, Brown supposedly confronted him and his entourage furiously. What followed was a chaotic scuffle of broken bottles, punches, and one serious gash to the face for Brown.

While club confrontations are nothing new in the world of pop stars behaving badly, Drake and Brown’s bout of fisticuffs has provided some novel fodder for the Twittersphere. The beef between Drake and Brown has simmered for a while, and this is the first time it’s exploded into a physical altercation. It’s hard to predict how the rivalry will continue from here, but fans of both artists can at least hope for some great diss tracks to result from the incident. Sure, losing a chunk of his chin doesn’t exactly make Brown 50 Cent, but that doesn’t mean he can’t milk it for all it’s musically worth.

Soundcheck: Maybach Music Makes Big Waves, Sign Omarion

Last week, Maybach Music Group made big waves when they announced some serious plans for 2012 that include a new Reebok clothing line with Swizz Beatz, three summer release dates for MMG artists and a surprising new addition to the team.

Rick Ross was joined by Warner Bros. and Def Jam Recordings executives Steve Bartels, Todd Moscowitz and Lyor Cohen, who spoke quite highly of The Boss.

“When I got a chance to meet him, I saw someone that was going to be undeterred in achieving the success that he has,” said Cohen. “He’s not satisfied. There’s no stopping him. I’m so grateful that I’m associated with him and that the Warner Bros. label is associated with him. The possibilities that Rick and Maybach Music are going to bring is going to be, in my mind, unprecedented.”

Swizz Beatz hit the stage to announce his partnership with Ross on a Big & Tall clothing line for Reebok. “He’s going to lead the big and tall movement,” said Swizz. “There’s a limit with clothes that stops at a certain point. With Ross, everything has to be custom made. I felt that instead of just doing a regular sneaker, we give Ross his own big and tall line.”

Live Wired [Review]: Childish Gambino 11/2

You may know Donald Glover from NBC’s comedy Community, where the Georgia native plays college student Troy Barnes. Last week Live Wired got to experience this actor’s musical side. Glover is currently on tour with his rap side project Childish Gambino in anticipation of his full-length album Camp, which comes out on November 15th. The writer, actor, comedian and rapper has been all over the place in the past year: from hosting the MTVU Woodie Awards to playing at Bonnaroo. This time around, he’s touring the country and selling out venues like House of Blues.

The crowd went wild from the second Donald Glover came on the stage and everyone was at full energy for the rest of the show even though the performance was simple. There was a live band and a small movie screen for graphics, but there was nothing extravagant. Honestly, not much else was needed because his stage presence is so big that he brings enough intensity to his performances. Having seen Glover do stand-up comedy in the past, it was fascinating to see the difference in he acts on stage when it comes music. There’s no doubt that, as hilarious as he is, he’s in the process of getting huge with his music.

He chose to perform one of his most popular songs towards the beginning of the set: “Freaks and Geeks”. The track, from an EP he released earlier this year, has a memorable beat and witty lyrics that gave the audience the chance to rap along with him. The crowd also got a kick out of Childish Gambino sampling John Legend’s cover of Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep”, as it turned into a giant sing-along followed by Glover rapping his own verse. We were also treated to some new Childish Gambino material which was exciting for fans who have been anticipating the new album. “You See Me” is incredibly catchy—the always-clever lyrics were displayed on the screen on stage so everyone could join in by the end. On the other hand, most of the crowd already knew “Bonfire”, the first single from the album and the best performance of the night.
