Phoenix Release “Entertainment” Lyric Video

Indie pop French outfit Phoenix have been teasing new material since the beginning of 2013, and not long ago fans finally got their first taste of those songs.

Hitting the internet sometime in the last twenty-four hours, “Entertainment” is the first song to be released by Phoenix this year. The song is the opening track for the band’s forthcoming release, Bankrupt!, which is currently scheduled to hit shelves in the U.S. on April 23 and the U.K. on April 22 via Loyaute/Glassnote Records.

You can view the official lyric video for “Entertainment” below. The song, as well as the rest of Bankrupt!, was produced by Phillippe Zdar and mixed on the same board that helped create Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Continue reading ‘Phoenix Release “Entertainment” Lyric Video’

Reddit User Unearths The Name Of The New Strokes Album Before Official Release Announcement

After digging through cached images and code in The Strokes’ official website, one Reddit user claimed that he discovered the name and artwork of the band’s upcoming album. The artwork, which is a stark red cover in the style of an old-school RCA tape reel box, features the words Comedown Machine directly underneath the name of the band. The user also reported that several visitors to who had attempted to listen to the band’s new single were directed to a URL that also featured the words “comedownmachine.” Now, following the Reddit scoop, The Strokes’ website features the red artwork prominently displayed behind a stream of the band’s single. The band has also just announced that the album will be released on March 26 through RCA. Once again, Reddit wins at the Internet.

Congratulations Jes Hudak, Winner Of The Ernie Ball Indie Pop Competition!

You spoke, we listened, and now the results are in. The winner of the Ernie Ball Indie Pop competition, and a year’s supply of strings and accessories from Ernie Ball is Jes Hudak.

Buoyed by her success on Bravo’s Platinum Hit, and gaining a faithful following in the land down under, Hudak has amassed a fan base that extends much further than Australia. How did she do it? The answer is apparent in her winning song, “All Mine,” which received massive praise in the Indie Pop Channel last month.

But this victory should come as no surprise to longtime fans of Hudak’s talent, not to mention regular Plugged In readers. After all, it wasn’t that long ago we featured her as our Pro Artist of the Week.

You can check out  “All Mine” below.

Tegan And Sara Stream New Song, “Shock To Your System”

In anticipation of the January 29 release of their seventh LP, Heartthrob, Tegan and Sara are streaming a new song from the record entitled “Shock To Your System,” via Vanity Fair. According to Sara Quin, the song was written during the depths of winter in Montreal and the lyrics are “an interior dialogue between the part of me that was transfixed by my loneliness and the other part of me that was ready to get over it.” With thumping drums, swelling synths, and the twins’ mesmerizing vocals, the song is another stunner, portending good things for Heartthrob. Check out the new tune here.

Check out OurStage act Vic and Gab if you can’t wait for the new Tegan and Sara album.

Vic and Gab: OurStage Pro Artist Of The Week

And the very first OurStage Pro Artist of the Week is…the excellent Vic and Gab. This sister duo, who play mesmerizing, grooving, and powerfully catchy indie pop, joined OurStage in 2010 and have since made an impressive amount of headway in their career. That year, they won the opportunity to have a song featured on MTV’s (controversial but short-lived series) Skins. Just this past July, they played the OurStage.com stage at the 2012 Vans Warped Tour. Then, two months later, they were playing for 18,000 people in their hometown of Milwaukee, at a rally for President Obama’s re-election. Not a bad trajectory and there’s surely more to come. We’re proud to feature them as our Artist of the Week.

Here’s “So Long So Tired” as heard on MTV:

Here’s a cool video from behind the scenes at Warped, featuring the song “Walls”:

Tegan And Sara Release Official Music Video For “Closer”

The indie pop twins are at it again. Canadian sisters Tegan and Sara have released the official music video for their single “Closer,” off their upcoming album Heartthrob. The song is much more dancey and poppy than their previously released material, so if you didn’t get a chance to listen when we posted it in September, be prepared to have it stuck in your head for the rest of the day. The video itself is just as fun and lighthearted as the song, with the two singers performing karaoke to a VHS recording of their own single, while various straight, gay, and lesbian couples make out at a crazy hipster dance party. Heartthrob is due out January 29th, 2013 in the U.S. and February 11, 2013 in Europe. In the meantime, check out the new “Closer” video below:
