Lions Lions Cover Bruno Mars “Locked Out Of Heaven”

New England’s Lions Lions have partnered with AbsolutePunk to release a cover of Bruno Mars’ 2012 hit “Locked Out Of Heaven.”

“We dig this song a lot so we decided put our own spin on it! (We apologize for not being even a fraction as talented as Bruno!)” writes the band on YouTube. To their credit, anyone trying to tackle someone like Bruno is doomed to face a permanent uphill battle. Like Madonna or Michael Jackson, his singles have hit that level of permanence in the annals of music history that anyone hoping to put a fresh spin on the original is forever destined to have that redux in the shadow of the original. That said, this is a fine second take and you can enjoy the track at the end of this post.

Lions Lions are not just about covers, in fact they’re a really talented band who deserve far more acclaim than they have been able to garner up to this point in their career. If you dig this cover, click here and visit their Facebook. Continue reading ‘Lions Lions Cover Bruno Mars “Locked Out Of Heaven”’

Paradise Fears Cover Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors”

Writing a great song will always win in the end when it comes to making it in the music industry, but being able to churn out a great cover every now and then can certainly help your journey along. Your fans, and more importantly the fans you’ve yet to make, have interests other than discovering new music, and covers are an easy way to bridge the gap between their current interests and your music. Up and coming band Paradise Fears recognize the potential to further their brand through this means, and recently posted a Justin Timberlake cover that we simply had to share.

Hailing from South Dakota, Paradise Fears have been carving their own niche in alternative pop rock since 2009. Their music has been compared to the likes of Coldplay, The Script, and Jack’s Mannequin, and after watching the performance below it’s easy to understand why. Smooth vocals, strong instrumentation, and a clear passion for their art make Paradise Fears a band to watch in 2013, and the following video is sure to aide them in their journey to the top. Alanis Morissette Covers Green Day

If that headline caught your attention, then you are probably reading this because you are either: A. an Alanis Morissette fan, B. a Green Day fan, or C. terribly confused and/or curious. Chances are the majority of you fall within the latter if not the first two or all of the above.

Yes, Alanis Morissette recently performed as the musical guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live and yes, she decided to close the show with her own version of Green Day’s “Basket Case.” The soft soothing ballad rendition is simultaneously funny yet touching, as she mentions at the end of her performance, “We love you Billie Joe!” It seems as though the singer was paying homage and showing support for her fellow 90′s alt-rock star after he recently admitted to and checked into rehab for substance abuse. It was a kind gesture on Morissette’s part, and a surprisingly fitting cover.

Transit Cover Third Eye Blind

Boston pop-punk band Transit have been getting really into acoustic performances this year, having performed on the Acoustic Basement stage almost every day at the Vans Warped Tour this past summer. The unplugged renditions of their own songs were incredibly well-received by fans and newcomers,  as were the few covers that they played.

Today the band released a video of themselves covering one of their “personal favorite” songs, “Motorcycle Drive By” by Third Eye Blind. Filmed and recorded at Maximum Sound Studios near Boston, MA, this is a heartfelt rendition that fits well with the band’s sound, showing where some of their inspiration comes from.
