A Lot Like Birds End “Rock Yourself To Sleep” Tour With Pillow Fight

Last month we held a competition offering OurStage artists a chance to open for multiple dates of the “Rock Yourself To Sleep” tour with Dance Gavin Dance, A Lot Like Birds, I The Mighty, Hail The Sun, and The Orphan, The Poet. Judging from the following video, it looks like the tour was a blast. A Lot Like Birds seem to have taken the theme of the tour pretty seriously, ending their set on the last date with an all out mosh pit pillow fight on stage and in the crowd. Check out the comfy carnage below:

OurStage Introduces Expanded Electronic Channels

Greetings OurStagers. We have some exciting news for the producers and EDM-ers among you. For the first time ever we have expanded our Electronic channels to include the following genres; House, Electro, Dubstep, and Downtempo. EDM has gone through a major facelift since its last time in the spotlight during the 90s and we think our channel selections reflect that. The channel definitions are as follows, and be sure to check out the examples of the type of music appropriate.

House – House music is a subset of EDM that must be built off of a 4×4 drumbeat. Slick productions and euphoric feelings should be primary elements of the music submitted here. Everything from Avicii style progressive-house to Richie Hawtin style tech-house is appropriate.

Electro – Unlike our House Channel, there is no required drumbeat for Electro (but keep your 2×4 productions in the Dubstep Channel). Electro submissions should be more aggressive in both style and substance than their House counterparts. Due to the ever-changing landscape of EDM, most upstart genres like moombahton and trap will be appropriate here. Think artists like Justice, Zedd, and Dillon Francis.

Dubstep – Dubstep has morphed and changed drastically over the years, so submit any of your tracks that follow the half-time rhythmic pattern that has become the universal constant of the genre. Whether your music focuses on the deep sub-bass sounds of London or the machine-like sounds of the U.S., Dubstep is the channel for you. Anything from Skream to Skrillex would be appropriate here.

Downtempo – This channel is for any and all electronic music that falls below the intensity level and tempo of club music. Whether you produce chilled-out lounge beats or minimal deep house, your submissions are welcomed here. Artists such as Chris Page, Gramatik, and Daniel Portman would definitely come hang out in our Downtempo Channel.

We hope to expand even further as we grow our EDM community. Please give us any feedback at community@ourstage.com.

For the past two months, OurStage bands have been battling each other across the U.S. for a chance to open for select dates of the Rock Yourself To Sleep Tour with Dance Gavin DanceA Lot Like Birds, I The Mighty, Hail The Sun, and The Orphan, The Poet. Today we are announcing and congratulating the first batch of winners, which are as follows:

Northwest Winner: Shallow Royale
Founded by the Crow brothers and their friend Bradly Tyner, these guys are a full throttle rock explosion. They recently won our Guitar Player “Take The Lead” Competition for guitarist Chase Crow’s insane shredability. If you’re going to any of the Northwest dates be sure to check these guys out!

West Coast Winner: Culprit
This California band will catch your ear right off the bat, with ambient echoing melodies combined with a post-hardcore intensity. Culprit delivers powerful and unique songs that take you through a chasm of emotive harmonies and rhythms. Catch their live set on the West Coast leg of the tour.

Texas Winner: Civil Sound
Hailing from the great city of Dallas, TX is Civil Sound, a moving alternative pop rock band with songs that we can all relate to. They’ve shared the stage with major acts such as South FM, OurStage’s Bronze Radio Return and American Idol Contestent and OurStage artist Tim Halperin. They will be playing all of the Texas dates of the tour.

Florida Winner: This Armistice
An ambient whirlwind of hard-hitting rhythms, intricate guitar work, and captivating melodies, this post-hardcore outfit comes from Southeast Georgia with a big sound. The Armistice deliver a powerful live performance that will keep you on your toes, so don’t miss them in Florida!

Congratulations to these four lucky and talented acts for rocking their way to the top! The next batch will be announced soon, but in the meantime, check out the winning songs by these four awesome bands:

Jitta On The Track Announces ‘Alphabet Soup’ Release Date

OurStage artist Jitta On The Track has been making big waves since he won the OurStage “Rise” Competition and landed a coveted opening slot on Drake’s Club Paradise Tour. He’s since been signed to DAS Communications, the management company that has handled artists from Ke$ha to The Black Eyed Peas, and has even been featured on MTV News and Vibe. And judging by the official announcement of his upcoming album’s release date, it looks like he’s keeping in close touch with some of the buds he made on tour. In a brief announcement from the set of the “Alphabet Soup” music video, Jitta tells us that the album is going to drop on Thanksgiving Day and teases some of the artists who will have feature spots. He’s censored some of the bigger names to keep them secret, but we think we can make out at least J. Cole and French Montana, both of whom he met on The Club Paradise Tour. Sure helps to have friends in high places, doesn’t it? See if you can guess who the other spots will be!
