Winners Announced for Converse’s “Get Out of the Garage” Music Contest

OSBlog_ConverseWinners_01In November Converse and OurStage joined forces to bring you the 2nd “Get Out of the Garage” Music Contest. Converse, along with Guitar Center and Journeys, wanted to send the best new acts in Rock and Urban music to play a career-making showcase in Austin this March. The gig in question? An opening slot for last year’s “Get Out of the Garage” winner, the Flying Machines, at the Levi’s/FADER fort! Over 6,500 artists were judged by fans on OurStage for a chance to play what could very well be their big break. From that 6,500, the competition was narrowed down to 10 high-ranking acts. Of those finalists, 2 acts were selected for the grand prize performance by a panel of judges who determined the winners based on their creativity, entertainment value, lyrics, melody and music. The grand prize winners will also be the lucky recipients of a $1,000 Guitar Center gift certificate and $1,000 in cash from OurStage! And now the moment you’ve been waiting for. . . the “Get Out of the Garage” Music Contest Winners!

Friday Flow: “The Booth” by Bradley Russell

OSBlog02_FridayFlow_MASTEREvery Friday on the OurStage blog, I’ll be featuring a great example of flow and lyricism in hip hop songs pulled from the OurStage ranks. I’ll get the artist’s thoughts on the song, as well as post the lyrics or best verse so fans can follow the flow themselves.

The DC/Virginia/Maryland area offers us this week’s Friday Flow, “The Booth” by Brad Russell. You could call it a comeback of sorts (though this is ill-advised by LL Cool J). It’s more like coming back from a vacation… a three year vacation. In a collabroation with Uncle Dirty Ward of the Trouble Funk Band, he’s looking to do hip hop the old school way (no cuss words, either).
