Pass the paella and put on your headphones, because we’re going to Spain this week. Axe wielders around the world can credit the development of the guitar to several Spanish ancestors such as the Flamenco guitar developed in the region of Andalusia. Today the myriad of genres construed as rock enjoy immense popularity throughout the country but this wasn’t always the case. Under Francisco Franco’s regime in the 60s, Spanish youth imported much of their music tastes from the US and UK. While Franco is long gone and the country has moved past forcing a fake sense of nationalism, the strong influence of American and British rock music still persists.

This morning I ran into Leah Wood, one of the two people who won tickets to Bumbershoot by commenting on one of our blog posts. She’s really excited about the festival, particularly looking forward to performances by Band of Horses and Barcelona.

Here’s more about Leah in her own words:

“I’m 28 years old and have lived in Seattle since 1998 when I came over from Bremerton for college. In school I really got into the music scene and going to live shows. It got to the point that if I wasn’t studying or in class I was probably at a concert. Now its almost the same except switch out studying or in class for working. As far as live show experiences go, Bumbershoot is one of the highlights of my year, that and Matt Nathanson concerts. I wouldn’t miss it for anything.”
