Big Boi And Andre 3000 Got Together This Weekend

OutKast May Reunite At Coachella 2014” we said. ‘Yes, we probably are,’ they said, by way of this awesome photo of Big Boi and André 3000 taken this past weekend in their hometown of Atlanta.

Still no announcements, and word is that any musical reunion is still months away, but this gives us hope. Hope for the future, hope for our times, hope for the children.

“Just leaving the old Stewart Ave…” Big Boi posted on his Instagram, adding: “#unfuckwittable.” Truly.

Outkast May Reunite At Coachella 2014

After announcing an indefinite hiatus nearly seven years ago, it looks like Big Boi and Andre 3000, AKA Outkast, may finally be reuniting. Although the duo have successfully dodged reunion questions for the better part of their hiatus, Billboard is reporting that the two will end their hiatus at next year’s Coachella—as a headlining act no less. Speaking about the news, Billboard says:

“One source tells Billboard that there have definitely been ‘some conversations’ about Outkast reuniting, while another says it is ‘all systems go’ for Big Boi and Andre 3000 to end their hiatus next year. A rep for Outkast did not comment for this story, while reps for their current label home, Epic, as well as Coachella organizer Goldenvoice, did not respond to request for comment at press time.”

Now, we don’t want to get your hopes up, but let’s not forget that Coachella is a festival that is notorious for hosting reunions, such as the celebrated returns of My Bloody Valentine, The Pixies, and the Stooges. Tell us what you think—is this reunion too good to be true?

Stream Beyonce & Andre 3000′s Amy Winehouse Cover

Though she was only able to give us one major release before she left this world, Amy Winehouse did leave us with a collection of some of the most soulful modern rock-soul-R&B songs one could hope to hear. It was only a matter of time before those songs became fodder for cover, but who would have guessed the first big redux would come from a duo such as this?

As part of the continuing promotional push for the upcoming adaptation of The Grat Gatsby, a stream has been made available of Beyonce and Andre 3000′s rendition of the Winehouse classic, “Back In Black.” The song’s soulful arrangement has been gutted and replaced with wobbly synth and thick bass lines intended to modernize and hypnotize. You can stream the re-imagining below.

The Great Gatsby opens in theaters on May 10. The soundtrack, which features this cover, arrives a few days prior on May 7. Continue reading ‘Stream Beyonce & Andre 3000′s Amy Winehouse Cover’

New Music From Beyonce, Lana Del Rey, and Florence + The Machine Featured In ‘Great Gatsby’ Trailer

Warner Bros. has been hyping their adaptation of The Great Gatsby since 2012, but their latest marketing attempt is turning the focus from film to music.

In addition to starring a quintessential who’s-who of Hollywood, the forthcoming May release of The Great Gatsby will be accompanied by an equally star-studded soundtrack. The latest trailer for the film promotes this, with selection from new music by Beyonce (featuring Andre 3000), Lana Del Rey, and Florence + The Machine being teased alongside the footage. You can stream the trailer below.

Andre 3000′s Musical Career Is “Up In The Air”

It has been quite a while—6 years in fact—since Andre 3000 has released a full studio album. Outkast‘s 2006 soundtrack for their movie Idlewild, is the last major release by the hip hop/R&B artist. Since then he has only been on featured tracks or his own sporadically released single tracks. This has raised a lot of questions and rumors among his fans, especially as to whether or not there will be an Outkast reunion.

According to Complex.com, Andre 3000 explained  in a Rolling Stone interview just where he stands currently as an artist, and frankly, he is not sure. He says that “things are kind of up in the air with me, and some days, I feel like yeah, I’ll do it. Some days, I feel like, I don’t. I don’t know the future of music right now. I have no idea what I do. I honestly don’t.” Andre also mentioned that he feels a judgmental pressure from fans and critics who are watching his every move in the music world “because I don’t do it much, they analyze every word and before, you could’ve had a shitty verse and people just forgot about it. So it’s different now.”

As for a reunion with Outkast, he simply states that he has tuned out all rumors and expectations because “it makes me mad to read it sometimes,” he says, “I don’t read the Internet.”

Meanwhile, Andre’s former Outkast partner Big Boi is set to release his next solo album, coincidentally named Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, on December 11th. Hopefully Andre will get back into the swing of things, and perhaps the two will join forces once again, but as of now, that seems unlikely.

The First Look Of Andre 3000 As “Jimi Hendrix”

Memorial Day weekend saw rapper Andre 3000 in Ireland prepping for his role as Jimi Hendrix in the upcoming biopic All Is By My Side. Sporting a fro’d out head of hair (wig?) and what appears to be a conch shell or hemp necklace in images that appeared online on the 28th, Andre absolutely embodies the late rock legend. At least in terms of appearance.

The film has faced opposition from the Hendrix estate who had previously prevented the project from going forward. However, the photos indicate that the John Ridley (Red Tails, 3 Kings) helmed project appears to be in production. But Experience Hendrix, LLC, the group in charge of managing the late guitarist’s licensing and publishing, is not offering their complete support of the project. In an official statement released earlier in May, the estate made it clear that they required complete access and oversight of the production process if they were to allow the use of Hendrix’s music, saying, “Experience Hendrix, LLC, the family-owned company entrusted with safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalogue, has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation.”

This isn’t the first time that Experience Hendrix, LLC has prevented a movie from utilizing the late guitarist’s music. A potential project about the “Purple Haze” performer from director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, United 93) was struck down by the estate in 2010.

Confused and Puzzled…? – Gorillaz, James Murphy, and Andre 3000 (Updated 02/23/12)

Expect the unexpected. Converse has announced they’ll be releasing a collaborative track and music video featuring three top names: Gorillaz, James Murphy, and Andre 3000. Due to drop February 23, the anticipation increased after Seattle ‘s alternative rock station 107.7 The End posted a making-of video on their show – the “Daily Swarm.” Here’s what we know: it’s entitled “DoYaThing” and the video will be – of course – a hybrid of cartoon animation and film. In addition to this “sneak peak,” Jamie Hewlett, the cartoonist behind the Gorillaz characters, released a storyboard/teaser of the video. However, the direction of the video remains unclear because of the two additional artists involved. To leave you even more confused than you already are…lets just say, “I smash 2-D’s face in the wall…” and “Get out of my bed…” (see videos).

Update:

Take out your Converse and enjoy “DoYaThing!” Holding true to the Gorillaz’s signature sound, the track’s groove is funky and downtempo, but Andre 3000′s abstract lyrics and fast rapping style provides the upbeat energy of Outkast, giving the song a truly unique favor.  Also, Jamie Hewlett’s input provides some cool electronic sensations. Overall, it’s simply a bangin’ collaborative tune you’ve got to experience for yourself. Check it out by clicking the link above and keep on groovin’!

Below is the official “making-of” video released by Converse, as well as Jamie Hewlett’s storyboard:
