My Bloody Valentine Release First Studio Album In Over 20 Years

In 1991 the Gulf War was raging, the youth of America were draped in flannel, and Irish indie rockers My Bloody Valentine had just released their second studio album Loveless, setting the bar almost impossibly high for future shoegaze records. Now, more than 20 years later, the band has finally released a new studio album entitled mbv, only their third in nearly three decades of existence.

Of course, the musical landscape has changed dramatically since the band was last in the studio. In keeping with modern times, My Bloody Valentine have embraced the multiplicity of formats currently available, albeit with somewhat head-scratching results. Even though My Bloody Valentine have posted all of their new songs on YouTube, they have also released the album with a tiered pay structure that may seem strange to many listeners. For $30, fans can grab the vinyl, CD, and digital download of the album. The band is also offering the CD and download for $22, and the download by itself for $16. While these high prices may seem strange for an indie band that has already put all of the songs on YouTube and is promoting the album with no label backing, the digital downloads are all available at exceptionally high quality as 24 bit, 96kHz WAV files, which is certainly not the norm for digital releases. Not sure if you want to drop the cash on the new release just yet? Check out the new tunes on the band’s YouTube channel first.

Reddit User Unearths The Name Of The New Strokes Album Before Official Release Announcement

After digging through cached images and code in The Strokes’ official website, one Reddit user claimed that he discovered the name and artwork of the band’s upcoming album. The artwork, which is a stark red cover in the style of an old-school RCA tape reel box, features the words Comedown Machine directly underneath the name of the band. The user also reported that several visitors to who had attempted to listen to the band’s new single were directed to a URL that also featured the words “comedownmachine.” Now, following the Reddit scoop, The Strokes’ website features the red artwork prominently displayed behind a stream of the band’s single. The band has also just announced that the album will be released on March 26 through RCA. Once again, Reddit wins at the Internet.

Twenty | One | PilotsVessel

Combining hip-hop, synthpop, modern rock, and a heaping dose of adolescent anxiety, Columbus Ohio’s Twenty | One | Pilots have happened upon a golden, and distinctly 21st century, sonic formula. Their new album, Vessel, features the mega-catchy single “Holding On To You.” If you have any doubt that 2013 will be their year, watch and learn. Continue reading ‘New Releases: January 8, 2013′

Taking Back Sunday Perform Acoustic Baeble Sessions

It’s hard to believe that Taking Back Sunday has been around for 10 years already, and it’s even harder to believe that guitarist and backup vocalist John Nolan wasn’t even in the band for about eight of those years. Recently, he and frontman Adam Lazzara performed some acoustic renditions of TBS songs for Baeble Music. In the video for these Baeble Sessions, they also talk about their falling out, what the past decade has been like, and what they have in store.

This is a nice precursor to their upcoming live double album release, which includes both a full acoustic version and a full band version of their breakthrough debut album Tell All Your Friends. Click here to check out the Baeble Sessions video of Lazzara and Nolan performing “Sad Savior,” “Your Own Disaster,” and “Best Places To Be A Mom.”
