Listen To Eli “Paperboy” Reed’s New Single

eli reedRetro soul crooner Eli “Paperboy” Reed has moved just a few inches away from the “retro” tag with “Shock To The System,” the first single off his upcoming LP Nights Like This, which drops on April 29th.

The single immediately impresses as less Otis Redding, a primary Reed influence, and slightly more modern by way of Daryl Hall and relatively contemporary production. No surprise then to learn that the song was co-written with Fitz and the Tantrums Michael Fitzpatrick, a Hall devotee.

The main thing is, it grooves. Check it out.

Sandy Thuy Le, 26, was pronounced dead last night by doctors at University Medical Center Brackenridge. Five other victims remain hospitalized.

The suspect in this incident is Rashad Charjuan Owens, 21, who is said to have fled a DUI stop with reckless abandon, driving at high speed through police barriers and into a waiting crowd before attempting to flee on foot. He was apprehended by police at the scene.

Our friends in the power-duo known as Yellabird have released the first track from their upcoming EP Debts. The song is “Tired Eyes,” and it bears the trademark Yellabird heavy riffage, flying-off-the-rails rhythm, and contrastingly sweet melodicism, with an ethereally roomy verse. Check it out.

Beck Performs On ‘The Tonight Show’

beck_hansen_0100Right after his recent North American tour announcement, Beck took to the stage of Jimmy Fallon‘s Tonight Show to perform “Waking Light” and “Say Goodbye,” which appeared as an online exclusive. Both tracks come off Beck’s recent album, Morning Phase, which we’ve raved about in one way or another over the past few months. I wasn’t sure those haunting melodies would necessarily translate well live, but this performance speaks for itself. Catch Beck on tour this spring, and watch both videos below.  Continue reading ‘Beck Performs On ‘The Tonight Show’’
